Wow.
Not to mention this demand that the Trump campaign count the votes themselves.

This may cause Rudy more trouble then adjusting his pants on film did.
It is interesting to see him be so up front about the plan, but even the people on this board supporting him seem to have been aware that "make the legislatures flip" was the goal.
Dutch Oven is clear that the point is just to stall until they get to the Supreme Court and that the certification deadline will hopefully have passed.

The issue is that even if they are stopped here, they have done a test run on where the weak points are. A lot of work will have to be done to preserve free and fair elections because the GOP is no longer even pretending they won't overthrow the will of the voters as soon as they are able.

So true. Tom Friedman asks that question in the NY Times as to whether the republicans can ever be trusted in power again. A smarter person would have tried what the Fidesz party and its leader Victor Orban did in Hungary. His party can control parliament w just 40% of the vote. When judges blocked his authoritarian agenda, they passed a law making all judges over 65 retire - which took out about half the judiciary - then pack the courts with loyalists who allowed their anti democratic agenda through unscathed.

I don't know why allegedly "freedom loving" yanks aren't scared shitless of Trump (instead of cult worshipping him). It's the right screaming most about freedom yet they practice it the least. Sure they go after the far left pc bs (and correctly so imho) but that is minor compared to living in a totalitarian state.

Think about that. Friedman is not a smart man and has a terrible understanding of political reality. If even Tom "The Mustache of Understanding" Friedman says something like that, you can tell the GOP has gotten pretty damn extreme.

What do you think the GOP has been doing for the last 10 years? The Federal court system is wildly reactionary for a reason. They just didn't think they could do it all in one stroke like Orban (and were probably right).
But they've been installing cronies in the system non stop. McConnell can't bring laws to the floor of the Senate or work on COVID-relief but he can find time to confirm 33-year olds who are "loyal" to lifetime appointments as judges.

Because "freedom loving yanks" are perfectly fine with authoritarianism as long as they think it will be directed at others for their benefit.
What belief in 'Freedom' they have is "Freedom to" not " Freedom from". (Or to put it another way, they say "liberty" when they mean "license".)

Its probably the reason that Hungary and Poland have the governments they do, keep flooding the media with messages for the 'believers'.
Same way that most republicans now think the election wasn't legit, just through Trump, Fox and social media attacks.

Even here on this board we have people who have bought in.

Todays GOP has transcended politics and issues and become a cult of personality. many of the policies promoted by the soon to be former autocrat wannabe in chief would have been completely antithetical to GOP dogma 6 years ago.

Strategy = Throw a lot of shit against the wall, hope something ticks enough to get the SCOTUS to take then case and then call in your markers. This will be the real test of Roberts loyalty to the institution rather than the party.

I'm amused by the theory that somehow it's mostly black voters who voted by mail. One, is there any evidence at all that, regardless of political party, that black people are MORE concerned about contracting Covid through in-person voting than anyone else? I'm not aware of any. Two, if the argument isn't based on that presumption, is it founded on the idea that black people would be more likely to vote by mail in order to avoid the more definitive voter id requirements of in person voting (in some states)? Despite couching the argument as protecting black votes, there seems to be underlying assumptions being made that are disparaging of black voters. Same old Democrat Party!

Now at least one Wayne County (Detroit) Canvasser (the Chair) is seeking to rescind her vote to certify the results in that county based on threats made to her and misrepresentations by County Counsel promising an audit.

There is no such theory. The theory is that the Republicans are targeting the black vote by picking counties with large black populations to try and get thrown out.
