Some have mentioned this, so I thought I'd start a separate thread on the subject. Although I'm not a huge basketball fan, I'm a sports fan in general and certainly aware of who the stars are. When the news of his death broke, I must admit, I wasn't aware of the sexual assault allegations.

From what I understand, the accuser refused to testify in the case after receiving death threats.

Things may have gone differently, as in sponsors may not have wanted anything to do with him had this happened in the #metoo generation.

2 sponsors dropped him I believe. In the civil trial I believe he signed an agreement that it wasn't consensual and the allegations were true. He also used the word adultery which was funny to hear.

The point of this thread is what exactly?

To kick a dead man? Sickening. Says a lot about the OP.

He paid her off...they settled civilly

Can you believe Kobe said it wasn't non-consensual because he wanted to come on her face and she said "no" and complied therefore that proves that she was not forced to do anything he wanted cuz she would have said "no" to other acts too and based on the prior refusal and compliance he would have obeyed her commands. Great defence. She let him fuck her but drew the line at cumming on her face.

Cheers

Ummm here’s an idea:

Possibly because this guy was good at basketball people are remembering him and honoring him like he was mother Teresa. You think it’s possible the OP wants to know a little more about the rape case/allegations so he can formulate an opinion how he wants to view his death???

Wake up dude.

im one of the few people that dont care about sports or celebrities but things like this are a sad indicator of where we are as the human race. i dont know the details of what happened between kobe and this woman and if the facts are that he crossed the line then i truly feel sympathy for the woman as a victim but this situation just proves that no matter how good of a person you are and no matter how much good works you do you are only as good as the worst thing you have done. you could kill 1 person and save 100 but all you will ever be remembered as is a cold blooded murderer. such a sad state of affairs...

That's pretty much the case. I honestly knew nothing about these allegations/charges against him until his death. Some others were stating their opinions on the matter in another thread (which I think is only natural) now that his name is back in the media. I don't think anything I said in my original post could be seen as kicking a dead man. It's a tragic loss of life and I wouldn't wish that on him, his daughter or any of the others on that helicopter.

From the sounds of it, she may have been into the encounter but at some point changed her mind. Perhaps when he was choking her. As far as I know, there haven't been any allegations against him from other women, so this may have been a one off he said/she said event.

I also didn't think it was appropriate to bring this up in a thread titled Kobe Bryant R.I.P.

So true. The rape case against Kobe was rock solid until she refused to testify. Did you see the pictures of her after the encounter? Now it's not stop tributes and trophies to be named after him. Remember the ring he bought for his wife after the case was thrown out...lol. Great player, one of the best ever. Not so much a great person....kinda like OJ I guess.

I wouldn't exactly compare him to OJ. lol

Here's how events transpired, in their own words. Who do you believe?

Funny how people feel the need to treat the recently deceased as saints.
You can mourn a person's death and feel bad that they are gone, but still acknowledge that they weren't perfect.

Kobe never said he raped her. He maintained that the sex was consensual. We'll never know. We do know that they had sex and that she had bruising around her neck and vaginal tearing. We know that she was mentally unstable and tried to commit suicide in the months before the accusation.
We know that she dropped the criminal case in exchange for an apology, and launched a civil suit that was settled so that he could move on with his career.

The apology read by Bryant’s attorney said: ‘First, I want to apologise directly to the young woman involved in this incident. I want to apologize to her for my behaviour that night and for the consequences she has suffered in the past year. Although this year has been incredibly difficult for me personally, I can only imagine the pain she has had to endure. I also want to apologize to her parents and family members, and to my family and friends and supporters, and to the citizens of Eagle, Colo. ‘I also want to make it clear that I do not question the motives of this young woman. No money has been paid to this woman. She has agreed that this statement will not be used against me in the civil case. Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did. After months of reviewing discovery, listening to her attorney, and even her testimony in person, I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter. ‘I issue this statement today fully aware that while one part of this case ends today, another remains. I understand that the civil case against me will go forward. That part of this case will be decided by and between the parties directly involved in the incident and will no longer be a financial or emotional drain on the citizens of the state of Colorado.’

Kobe Bryant made a mistake by having sex with someone he didnt know or wasnt paying. But he died while taking his daughter to a basketball game. And his charitable deeds were countless. A saint? No. Did he redeem himself? Absolutely!
It could also be that she didn't (initially) see nor seek a payday, but her stealth legal representatives did, and pushed the young woman to proceed. What 19 year old wouldn't jump at the opportunity for a few million dollars.

I think people can call him an "alleged" rapist if they want, but the chants of "rapist" are unfounded and show that the pitch-fork lynch mob mentality is alive and well. The justice system did its job. Everyone moved on except the haters.

For one, he cheated on his wife. Something many here are familiar with.

Guess he should've taken Shaq's advice. Or perhaps arranged an incall. Would've cost him a lot less than $2.5 M. lol

And in another supplemental report in Bryant’s case file, he chose to invoke Shaquille O’Neal’s name during the investigation—for reasons unclear.

According to the police report, while he was being questioned by the officers about the alleged sexual assault, Bryant said, “I should have done what Shaq does,” adding, “Shaq gives them money or buys them cars, he has already spent one million dollars.” The report added, “Kobe stated that Shaq does this to keep the girls quiet.”

It cost him $2.5 million to settle, endorsements and the $4 million dollar ring to wife (no pre nup).

They say man makes plans and God laughs. Everytime one of these super rich people die like that ..I wonder. Of course politically correct Libtard Washington Post would do something like this.

Kobe Bryant death: Washington Post reporter suspended after tweeting link to article on sex assault case

Washington Post political reporter Felicia Sonmez has been suspended from her job after a series of tweets in the aftermath of the helicopter crash that killed basketball legend Kobe Bryant.

Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others perished Sunday morning in Calabasas, California.
Tweeting Sunday afternoon, Sonmez posted a link to a Daily Beast article which explored a 2003 allegation of sexual assault against Bryant. The article, written in 2016, is headlined: “Kobe Bryant’s Disturbing Rape Case: The DNA Evidence, the Accuser’s Story, and the Half-Confession.”
Social media users, some of them high profile, quickly went on the attack against Sonmez and the Post, saying that her posts were insensitive to the player’s death. The allegation she referred to, made by a hotel worker in Colorado, was never heard in criminal court but Bryant publicly apologized to his accuser and settled a civil complaint.

“Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did,” he said at the time.
Donald Trump Junior, a son of President Donald Trump who has frequently clashed with news reporters, was among those weighing in against Sonmez.

“You Washington Post reporters really can’t help yourselves, can you?” Trump tweeted. He linked to the tweet of the article from Sonmez, but very soon she had deleted it and others in which she had defended her actions. As the backlash came fast, Sonmez had initially posted to Twitter that she had received hate mail from “10,000 people” but said she was within her rights to have linked to the article.
“To the 10,000 people (literally) who have commented and emailed me with abuse and death threats, please take a moment and read the story — which was written 3+ years ago, and not by me. Any public figure is worth remembering in their totality even if that public figure is beloved and that totality unsettling.
“That folks are responding with rage and threats toward me (someone who didn’t even write the piece but found it well-reported) speaks volumes about the pressure people come under to stay silent in these cases.”
She later tweeted:

“If your response to a news article is to resort to harassment and intimidation of journalists, you might want to consider that your behavior says more about you than the person you’re targeting.”
Soon, though, all of her tweets on the topic would be removed. They had, however, been saved by many social media users.
In a statement to the Guardian and other outlets Monday, the Washington Post said that the tweets were in violation of the Post’s policies around social media, and Sonmez had been put on leave. Managing Editor Tracy Grant said:

“National political reporter Felicia Sonmez was placed on administrative leave while the Post reviews whether tweets about the death of Kobe Bryant violated the Post newsroom’s social media policy. The tweets displayed poor judgment that undermined the work of her colleagues.”

As well as the vitriol headed her way, Sonmez did have her defenders on social media, with some saying the Post had acted rashly in suspending her.

“Suspending a reporter for tweeting a relevant detail — a detail included in virtually ALL the obits I’ve read — is heavy handed and chilling,” tweeted reporter Barry Whyte. “I can’t speak to the Washington Post’s social media policies and I don’t know (Felicia Sonmez), but it’s hard to understand the decision.”

Remember When Kobe Bryant Was Charged With Rape? I Didn't Forget, and Neither Should You

Lauded by Hollywood and the media for his last game, the Lakers star — and a slew of fellow male A-listers including NFL stars Ben Roethlisberger and Greg Hardy — exemplifies a double standard about verbal versus physical harm.
