Practice of applying tipping to servers....at a buffet restaurant; that I don't really get.
Actually physically it's harder work. Lots more trips to the table to pick up dishes. I've worked both.

But easier obviously from a product knowledge standpoint.

When I worked it I had a larger section so it evened out. And more large parties so auto-grats were more frequent.

I also have no clue what the hell an "Honest to Goodness" fee is but I wouldn't pay it if I saw it and feel free to watch me leave.

Is it listed prominently on the menu? Seriously I'd lose it over that too.

The burger is big and delicious. A burger, fries and 60oz of beer is under 20$, the htg tax equals. 50c. Most places the burger is near that. I'm a fan.

Recently my barber and mechanic got new POS machines and there is this step where they beg for a tip and I fucking hate that. I don't mind paying more if the service warrants but to be in a situation where I have to process why all of a sudden I need to leave them a tip and will my hair cut or oil change be as good next time if I don't is stupid ridiculous.
Waaaah Waaaah Waaaah.....Jesus man. You logged into TERB on Christmas Day to whine and bitch about this.

Reality check for you and anyone who wants to cry about modern POS systems at any business:

-You're not that special princess. They will not remember if you tipped or not the last time you were in for a haircut or especially for a fucking oil change. Get over yourself, you're just another customer.

-Why was this added to a POS system? Because for anyone who DOES want to tip would previously have to pay separately or ask to have the POS amount increased which would not match the invoice and throw their bookkeeping off - you know, running a business and all that.

'Begs for a Tip' - Only in your mind there sunshine. Seriously, read your post, read mine and maybe, just maybe have a breakthrough that the POS is used by everyone - people who choose not to tip and those that do - having no impact on the next quality of the next oil change you will receive.

Now for the few times I go to Starbucks if I have 4 something in change, they will give me 4 loonies change, expecting a tip. Bartenders always give change with the expectations of a tip. Why anyone would tip a taxi driver is beyond me, not my fault they drive a taxi.

The worst is 30, 40, 50 something loser guys who bartend and expect tips, always considered that job as a 20 somethings hot chick job.

The manager did show it to me in the menu, but really, who's going to look for something like that? It's not like it's a contract and you've got to read all the clauses. It's unheard of. Just list what the actual price is.

It's like on some of those TV infomercials, I now hear..."And as a bonus, we will send you a second one for free. Just pay a separate charge." At least even there they tell you to your face about the more money.

Absolutely, 3% is no big deal, but this is one of the cases where it truly is a matter of principle. It is just super sneaky and deceptive. That was my issue and it got added on to the other incidents.

Oh give me a break. Really? It's a "self-serve"........
The concept of tipping has been totally corrupted.
Yeah, I was replying to Grimnul who said tipping has gotten out of control and used the tip jar at the self-serve gas station as an example.

Quote from Grimnul's post below.

"The system has become corrupted. What started as a way to reward exceptional service has morphed into a way for cheap assholes to not have to pay their employees and it’s bullshit. Time to bring tipping behind the barn. It’s not doing what it’s supposed to anymore."

Sounds like I didn't miss anything special. I am.curious about this Htg thing though. Do they announce it on their website or menu?

I assume you have worked in a restaurant. When I was in high school, I worked a few months as a busboy at a restaurant. The policy there required all the servers to put all their tips in a jar and then the money is divvy up among the servers, kitchen staff and last and definitely least the busboys. (Maybe the manager took his share as well.)

First of all it's not your fucking business when I log in on here and in what manner I write about things on here! What are you? A forum police that you track people down when they login, respond or not respond, cross reference fucking threads (you did it to somebody else I noticed)??? You have an argument post it but don't fucking tell me what I can and can't write about on Christmas Day.

Second, don't think that you are somehow smarter than everybody else and the only one with knowledge of how businesses are run and what actually happens behind "closed doors" at places like barber shops, car shops, small stores etc. I hate to disappoint but you are not (so sorry you're being a princess here thinking that you are special and all that, not me). I can assure you (from first hand experience) that business owners remember clients and will treat some differently to others. For example, an asshole like you would not get any discount at a place I worked at long time ago. On the other hand clients that were pleasure to deal with and spent a lot got their coffee, discounts etc. and in some cases were served after hours.

Finally, 95% or so of people would never tip if it wasn't customary, it's just so counter intuitive and senseless when you already paid for goods/services. Including that tip step in POS is an element that helps sales people sell POSs by advertising that feature and telling the owner that it could bump up revenue (again, first hand experience as I was on the other side of the counter when the guy tried to sell one!!!).

So there, I read your post, strikes me as something an insecure 15 year old would write.

I didn't see it on the website. It is listed on the menu, but I did not notice it until shown. But like I said, it is not something you would expect to have to look for. Even if it is in giant letters it is still inherently deceptive by not just listing what the actual price is.

If this is clearly an issue why not just raise all menu items by 3%. It is the same amount and less predatory.
Exactly my point.

And that is how threads go off topic. At this point, not one person is talking about the tipping practises of millennials, which I assume is what you wanted discussed.
