Pino Palladino on bass : he left the band

Roger's voice is better than it was 20 years ago : nope , he had trouble singing Love, Reign o'er Me last time

But Im still going in June
Love Reign O'er me would be a tough song for any singer to do. Incredibly demanding.

Daultry, in his prime, was in the top 5 of rock singers and he owned Love Reign O'er me. It's a great song which I love hearing, but in fairness no-one, can expect a guy in his 70's to hit it 100 percent. Hell, very very few singers can do that song even if they were 20 years old.

Not a band, and I don't think he was mentioned, but Neil Young has to be included in any discussion of greatest in rock. Amazing songs in a wide variety of styles/genres, guitar, his influence over younger artists, and he still has relevance after over 50 years.
CSN&Y was awesome, it wouldn't be much of a stretch for someone to think of that band as greatest. So you can also mention Young as member of that great band for nit pickers.

Agreed.

Neil is right up there at the top. He is a force in rock and roll and still going strong.

Canada produces some of the best solo artists.

Neil Young, Robbie Robertson, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell.

For me Deep Purple's Ian Gillian had an amazing voice as well. Hell, he even sang the part of Jesus in Jesus Christ superstar. But they all lose their range eventually and it sometimes become painful to listen to them when they try to relive past glories. Daultry did seem to have longer staying power and I think he was underrated. Can't imagine the Who with anyone else ......

One band that never gets mentioned is Uriah Heep .... these guys made some great noise!
Uriah Heep were a very unlucky band that I loved. Awesome sound but they lost both their bassist (Gary Thain) and then their singer (David Byron) to the ravages of the rock lifestyle. Byron's passing was overshadowed by Bon Scott, a shame since Byron was vastly superior. Ken Hensley tried to keep it going but it did not last. Drummer Lee Kerslake became part of Ozzy's first solo band.

The worst part is Styx stole their sound and turned it into pop/rock.

Some great bands named lads, indeed! I find mood etc often will change my opinion. I can always find time for the Clash however.

They were huge and I was super proud of Neil when he joined. In the meantime it didn't take long for Neil to become the de facto leader of the band. They tour only when he decides to. The others defer to him. So as great as they were, aside from their debut album, I just consider them to be another vehicle for Neil to display his greatness.

CSN(Y) really only had two significant studio albums. No other artists listed in this thread, had that few.

Loved the Clash. I think their promo line was "The most important band in the world". Too bad Joe died so young (50). He was doing some fine solo stuff at the time.

IMO, even though his solo career was very, very good I think the work he did with the Band was much more influential. I just finished reading Testimony, Robbie's autobiography and history of the Band. The book ends shortly after The Last Waltz.

In the pantheon of Candian music (not nedessarily rock) I'd say the top 3 (in no particular order) would be Neil, Glenn Gould and Oscar Peterson. Apologies to Guy Lombardo and the Beebs for chopping them.

The Eagles
Jeff Buckley (listened to ONLY his album, Grace, for 8 months street in 2015. I couldn't help myself! I couldn't function! The songs played on endless repeat in my head for 8 months! Couldn't concentrate on anything. It was like a drug that I was ALWAYS wanting! I'd get into my car and turn on something...but something in my mind kept on saying, "Just listen to one of his songs, then listen to something else." I cannot believe that I'm NOT sick of those songs today. Still will give a listen to the whole album once in awhile.)

Many good bands mentioned here. Here is one of my favourites. They were great for the first 3 albums until they went more commercial. Under rated musicians especially Mel Schacher on bass:

The Beatles. No other band is even close.

The Beatles’ songwriting, innovation, and influence on popular culture still resonates today.

The Rolling Stones are a strong but distant second due to their longevity, live performances, and catalogue of music.

You can’t compare Motörhead to this! It’s like comparing a comic book to a great novel...and I love comic books.

Yes, even Mick Jones and Big Audio Dynamite worth one's time as well. But back to the Clash proper, upon Joe Strummer's passing, i thought, a la Clampdown, "what are we gunna do now???!....."....one of the great song opening lines of all time...
