Although I agree with your concept, in terms making a fair format for making the actual playoffs, the problem is how deep the playoffs/WS extend into late October. The WS is the ultimate and deciding it by who plays best in 40 degree or colder weather does not seem appropriate. Extending the preliminary series makes that more of a likelihood.
After the regular season the Monday is reserved for any tie breaking scenarios. Wild card game is Tuesday. Wednesday is an off day and the play-offs start the Thursday.

Why not push the first game of the divisional series to the Friday, and use the Tues, Wed & Thurs as a 2 out of 3 wild card round? They can even eliminate one of the off days in the divisional round and they will be back on the current schedule. Most teams are use to playing 6 out 7 or 13 out 14 days in a row so this should not cause any undue hardship on the players.

I do realize that TV is driving the schedule but the first round in baseball is regional, so the national coverage is not as important.

Also I hate it that baseball has lower market teams play during the day on a weekday to appease the television folks. This sucks as many fans cannot take the day off to watch their team. Baseball really needs to address that issue. Hockey and basketball will have play-off games on at the same time.

Another "lights out" performance by Gaviglio today.

You read my comments in another thread about how you're becoming obsessed with me, Phil?

Let's leave it there, shall we? You may not really require therapy. Just a little self control now and again.

I always said they could not win without Gibbons....

I guess that makes Martin the Least Successful Manager in Blue Jays history. At least on the stats.

unless Sanchez and/or Stroman bounce back in 2019.......getting to 73 wins won't happen. Bring back Gibbons - just kidding

Pannone, Borucki, a free agent 5th starter, one of R-F or Gaviglio and whichever of Stroman or Sanchez bounces back. Could be worse. Could be 2018 all over again.

Borucki was the best starter in 2018.

They also need a bullpen boost.

IF = Jansen, Smoak, Diaz, Gurriel, VG Jr. Tellez is DH, unless he regresses.

OF = Pillar, Teoscar, Grichuk and a rookie 4th OF.

oagre…… have a feeling you may need a program to figure out who is where, here, and what is left next year. Could be a lot of guys currently on the roster moved. Definitely need starting pitching.

Not much sense trying to put a roster together until you have an idea who they are keeping, trading away and bringing in.

The question will the money hungry Jays try to compete for WC next year via FA market to sell seats or rebuild. I suspect they will try to do both

I have a hard time thinking Teoscsar will be a part of the future. He cannot field at the major league level and while he has a good bat, it’s not good enough to be a DH
Kevin Barker said 2 months ago he will be traded for sure.

I dunno, I think Jays should keep him till next season

Not if they were serious and spent some money to correct their mistakes like other teams with deep pockets do.
Keep dreaming.

BTW, which other teams with big pockets are you referring to?

Only two teams with deep pockets have a higher payroll with success this year. L.A and Boston and it's unfair to compare the Jays to teams that have private owners that don't care about loosing money where the owners consider it nothing more than a fun hobby.

Tulo, Morales and Martin will cost the Jays 51 million next year. I would say the plan is to not sign anymore big contracts until at 2020 when Morales and Martin are off the books. That clears 31 million. By then, hopefully the young guns are what we hope they will be, and we can use that 31 million to complement Vlad Jr. and company.

I didn't say that I expected it to happen. I said "if they were serious". And by serious, I mean serious about giving the fans a proper team to cheer for, instead of letting shapeero weaken the former playoff team each successive year.

Yes, Rogers is a business and is beholden to their shareholders. I wonder how happy the shareholders are when attendance has gone from:

2016--3.4M
2017--3.2M
2018--2.3M

As I'd previously estimated, losing a million asses in the seats (along with concessions, souvenirs, apparel, advertising revenue [decreased viewership]) they probably lost north of $100M by not keeping the team competitive and going on the cheap. If they are a responsible business driven by the bottom line spending $30-40M to get a more competitive roster would more than pay for itself. It does not seem like a difficult process. And they'd build, or at least maintain good will with the fan base who could see that the team takes the fans seriously. That pays off down the road as well. It matters not if AA traded prospects (who, for the most part, have really not done very much). Rogers is filthy rich. For them, spending money should be easier than an individual.

Throw some money at the problem. It is totally illogical and bad business sense to do what they have done.

BTW, if shapeero seriously thought that this roster would contend and keep fans coming, then he is a terrible judge of talent.
