Mike Anscombe, Ernie Afaganis, Pat Marsden, Don Chevrier, Peter Gross, Russ Salzberg, Debbie Van Kiekebelt, Fergie Oliver, John Saunders.....
Actually, it was Fergie Olver, no "I". Add George Gross, Frank Orr, Milt Dunnell, Ward Cornell, Murray Westgate (the Esso guy).

Found a clip from the movie , "The Silent Partner", which was partly shot in the Eaton Centre in '78, "Darby's" ( now the "Jean Machine") and "Slack Shack" (now Steve Madden shoes) in the back ground. Note all the plants that adorned the eaton centre, lol

I was there the day that they filmed that scene. I stood watching for quite a while. I guess I didn't have anything better to do.

Look at the toques, eh? I remember this movie - Celine Lomez was in it and she was a hottie. Not a bad movie for an early Canadian production (John Candy was in it too). This was one of the early movies when the Canadian film industry was getting its tax break boost. Another movie that came out at around the same time was “Fast Company” (filmed in Alberta) directed by David Cronenberg. It had some real Canadiana - including two “hosers” drinking from stubbies in their muscle car (while a drag racing car takes off beside them).

I remember Fergie on those early years following the Jays. I was curious as to what happened to him and most of the search engines directed me to his game show "Just Like Mum". What may have been innocent behavior in the 80's sure comes across as creepy in these times. This video is quite cringe-worthy.

Surprised no one has claimed harassment from being forced to kiss him. Then again, there is always time.

They also spelled his last name wrong.

If you try to google Fergie, you get a lot of hits with “pedo” in the results. Yeah, that show was cringeworthy. In Fergie’s defence it was around the same time Richard Dawson was slipping the tongue to every female on the show, so maybe it was just a typically Canadian game show take on copying a successful US game show. But he’s disappeared from public maybe because of all the criticism? (Sounds like the criticism was pretty immediate from some viewers).

‘80’s Canadian game shows always had an endearing but amateurish feel to them with Grand prizes of like a $50 gift certificate at Zellers... LOL. The best Canadian game show, IMO, and one that would be a good choice for a modern tv reboot was “Front Page Challenge”. CBC radio has a show called “Because News” but I find it overly scripted with unfunny comedians (with the exception of Martha Chaves, she’s off the wall and very funny).

Here's a part of Toronto that hasn't changed in 34 years, Kensington Market!

(During TIFF one year, I found myself in an elevator with G. W. Bailey who played Lt. Harris who had it in for the Mahoney character , also in the elevator was actor Luis Guzman! LOL!!!!! I was taken so pleasantly surprised that I was totally speechless!

Kensington Market has totally changed in all but architecture.

I lived there briefly in the mid 1970's. At the main intersection close to me there were 4 fruit & vegetable stores on each corner. At night they had one illegal immigrant (european) provide security for all.

Now there is almost no food for sale, except in restaurants and bars.

I really miss the crates of live chickens clucking. Well sort of ...

What's really creepy is that his wife , Cathy Swing ( a former Miss Canada) , was co-host on the show

I haven't been in this site for over10 years but this thread brought back a lot of memories. Does anyone recall the Warwick hotel
ah yes the Warwick....with the hookers sitting at the back row against the wall.......somewhere in the mid 70,s me and a couple of buds spent New Years Eve there.....rang in the new year drinking champagne out of cone shaped paper cups....so much class....lol......hauled a hooker out of there one night and ended up in Larry,s Hideaway...another classy joint ..lol..

Only the St Lawrence Market/Distillery area has that vintage vibe to it.
Queen St W between University and Spadina is a shadow of its former funky self. Steve's Music Store and the Rivoli are the only remaining venues from my youth.
Gone are the SciFi/Fantasy bookstore and SilverSnail ( well the Snail has relocated but haven't been to the new place yet).
Kopps Collectables....bought a lot of soul 45.s there
