Damn, that was a shitty return for Happ. Those two project as fringe major leaguers at best.

But the haul for Oh was pretty good. At least these guy have upside.

But if you consider that the Yanks are only sure of keeping him for 2 months, how much could one reasonably expect another team to give up? And it's not like he's an A-lister.

In fact, the Jays can re-sign Happ for next year and they still have the 2 prospects. The trade was probably fairly reasonable.

He probably has lost money, but he got the job by selling them of the fact he could make them money.
Without a great rebound year next year, his tenure has been an epic fail.

His revenue/attendance profited from the team that AA built initially, and any rebound will take time for the fans to buy into. Attendance should be dismal in 2019 until at least mid-May (worse if the Leafs are still in it). That gives him a little over a season and a half to regain attendance/viewership/revenue, especially if he once again refuses to spend money to make money.

I expected to get more than he is worth. As a solid third line pitcher he is that final piece that could put you over the top

In essence, we got nothing for him. I think the Jays may be bad traders or they see value where no one else does. They had a lot of time to evaluate Yankee prospects

I don't understand getting mediocre position players in return. We already have lots of mediocre position players. And we hae hot prospects as position players, guerrero, Bichette, jansen for example. Why are they not getting young strong healthy arms?
They should have gotten a young arm from the Yanks instead of McKinney who will never make it in the bigs. The Yanks are loaded with arms I would have asked for Chance Adams who projects as a mid rotation starter.

A bright note in anotherwise dismal season, is Gurriel who now has multiple hits in 11 consecutive games. The last time somebody had 12 was 83 years ago. However, even that is tempered by the fact that he got injured on his 3rd hit. I heard it was a knee contusion and an ankle sprain. No word on the degree of the injuries or how long he will be out.

He's tied with "Shoeless" Joe Jackson at 11 consecutive games for a rookie.

He may have gotten hurt, but we got to see Nikki Huffman on tv for a while. Here's hoping there are more non-serious injuries before the season ends.

There's plenty of hope for the future, I hope Gurriel isn't to badly hurt. That looked scary. They interviewed his brother Yuli, he said that he's a better hitter than himself. I'm waiting to see Jr get called up, nice induction ceremony for Sr into the HOF.

Funny video, they sure know how to bring on the suckage.

Osuna has been traded to the Astros for Ken Giles and 2 minor leaguers
Thanks for the info. Thank God you posted this otherwise, I don't think anyone would have known about this. Especially the people participating in thread about this very subject, despite the fact we have a blue jays thread where this could have been discussed.

For all of us who thought 2017 was a forgettable year, 2018 turns out to be a disaster!

All that the BJ's have to do now is get rid of Tulo, Donaldson, Garcia, Estrada, Morales, Smoak, Clippard and Axworthy and they can start all over again... :apologetic:

I wonder what their shopping list look like now?

The team has gotten significantly worse each year under shapeero and losing money hand over fist compared to when they had a contender.

IMO you can add Martin to that group along with Diaz and Solarte

I had Martin on the list... I guess I accidentally edited him out...

I think Solarte is a keeper. One hell of a utility man, productive at the plate and a better hitter than his present average indicates.

Diaz could or could not be a keeper... let him play and show what he can do today... we know what he did yesterday.

I know you don't like him, and neither did I when he first started. But I think rather highly of him now.

Certainly he is not responsible for all the injuries and the under-performance of the regulars who were here before he arrived.

He is, however, the consummate professional. He has a vision for the BJ's and it is not the same as yours... or mine?

Now that we can relax because they are not likely to contend in 2019, let's see what he can do. He is rebuilding from the ground up while putting a team on the field... not an easy thing to do if the expectation is to win now. His objective, I think, is to build a perennial contender...

I don't doubt that he is a smart guy.

My issue is that we had a team that was so close to the world series and instead of trying to build on that and get us to the ultimate level the team has gotten worse each year. I can understand if a team is crap and it takes time. I got the feeling, starting when he forced AA out, that he wanted a team that he created all by himself/in his own image, without having any, or hardly any pieces from the previous regime. I think he has a big ego and does not want to share credit with anybody else.

So, yes. I immediately disliked him when the first thing that happened was him essentially forcing out the face of the franchise, AA. Fresh, bold, the players trusted and rallied around him, but shapeero did not want him around because of his (my speculation) ego. So now, it took him 3 years to just break down the team. Now, how long to build it back up?
