A strong farm system is depth throughout and high upside players in the lower levels (Rookie, A, AA). We had to start garbage guys like Gaviglio, Hauschild, Biagini....etc because there was no decent starting talent in AAA, and the A/AA guys weren't ready. That is shitty logic... and that is putting it mildly! :der:
You have to have highly rated prospects to have a highly rated farm system... and, now, because they have high level prospects, you say that their high level farm system ranking is suspect?
So, in your opinion, what do they have to do to have a highly rated farm system?

Well maybe you should share your insight with the powers that be in terms of making these rankings. You obviously know more than they do, because a lot of teams would like to be #5.A strong farm system is depth throughout and high upside players in the lower levels (Rookie, A, AA). Assume Vlad and Bichette make the club next year, then our top prospects are Jansen, Pearson and Alford who are ranked 73/89/91 respectively. http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2018?list=prospects

Something strange is going on. For the second time in a few days I agree with you!!!!Well maybe you should share your insight with the powers that be in terms of making these rankings. You obviously know more than they do, because a lot of teams would like to be #5.
I'm no expert, but I do follow Jays prospects pretty closely. True, I don't have access to professional scouting reports and analytical data but there's enough good info on Baseball America's & ESPN's subscription services, Fangraphs and various Blue Jay boards and blogs for a fan like me to form an opinion. As for you, Tribunus, I prefer the opinions of the experts, the professionals, to yours... they have access to scouting, information and analysis of all the teams that you and I can't even dream about... or afford!
Think you may have a point Tribunis. The Jays currently have 5 players ranked in the top 100 prospects, remove #1 Vlad jr. and #9 Bo Bichette and your next player is Jansen @ 73, Pearson and Alford are rated 89 and 91 respectively. With that in mind, the #5 ranking takes a big hit if you take the two, Vlad jr. and Bichette out of the mix. So unless they have some hotshots in low A ball or ??? that are beginning to make their mark the #5 jumps a bunch.I'm no expert, but I do follow Jays prospects pretty closely. Now is the perfect time to do it. Even though he has garbage to work with, it’s good from an optic stand point, and I they will use this as a marketing strategy to sell the fans “we have a new manager, that should fix us”.Strong rumors Gibby will get fired by end of the season
I'm sure that is what shapeero wanted from the get go, but after making the playoffs two years in a row, his hands were tied.Strong rumors Gibby will get fired by end of the season
Heard something similar, a Spanish speaking manager that was knowledgeable of analytics. That should reduce the number of qualified candidates in a hurry.AM radio was hinting Shapiro might install a Latino manager to better develop the Spanish speaking youngsters Gurriel, Teo, Vlad Jr.....etc.
I think thats a really good idea
And also probably someone that he can get for real cheap.Heard something similar, a Spanish speaking manager that was knowledgeable of analytics. That should reduce the number of qualified candidates in a hurry.
IMO, the best coaches are the guys that were grinding, run of the mill players that had to work hard to get everything they achieved, as opposed to the naturally talented guys. You can't teach natural talent. But you can teach all those things you had to work at to become a major leaguer. Gretzky was a lousy coach. Gerard Gallant got his team to the finals in his first year in Vegas. So here is someone who fits that profile: Robbie Alomar.
