I'm sure he says a bunch of stuff to get clients. But I have been a lawyer for 30 years and the system does not work in any sense the way you want to believe. So your post is still bullshit.

No one walks because their lawyer "knows someone". If Barry is that unethical, he will prey on idiots like you to get extra fees and clients. But it's a scam. He'll take whatever money he can up front and then cut a plea bargain where you plead guilty and he'll tell you: "Man, this is a MEAN crown. A total asshole. I can't deal with this jerk. You better plead."

What kind of lawyer are you? I can't imagine your a criminal lawyer.

Half these guys know each other and do favours for each all the time. Paper work "get lost" and shit of that nature.

Can you explain how he managed to get Rick Vaive off which was a black and white case?

Even reputable lawyers like Fred Fedorsen who's known to be a straight shooter will tell you in a consultation that if they happen to know the crown, your chances are much higher.

People are naïve enough to think this stuff only happens in developing countries. Happens in every country.

Paperwork doesn't "get lost". If you want to believe that shit, then you're a prime dupe for any slick, sketchy defence lawyer in town.

If you know the Crown, you might get a slightly better deal - i.e. 12 months probation instead of 15 on a plea for an low level assault. But no one is going to "lose the paperwork" on a criminal prosecution.

Do you think that the entire system is one huge, corrupt, poop-pile of buddy ass-fucking??!!??!! Do you think there's no oversight? Do you think victims have no access to the system? Do you think the judge wouldn't give a shit? Do you think the Senior Crown Attorney doesn't give a shit because he gets a free beer??!! Do you think the local media reporters get a chocolate chip cookie each week in a fancy bag, so they don't blow the whistle?? Just how do you think that kind of a grossly corrupt system would work in 2018 Toronto?!

SOME defence lawyers will just tell the client anything that gets them a client and fattens the fee.

I just shake my head at you in disbelief.

.
No, but I think small part of the system is. In every company at every level, there is corruption, usually fueled by greed.

Here's a few articles on CB:

http://www.lawtimesnews.com/article/law-society-makes-bid-for-wiretaps-of-lawyer-8916/

https://www.thestar.com/news/crime/...nent_prosecutor_acquitted_of_sex_assault.html

So this guy who used to be on the crown, would never doing anything shady for a kick back?

You think he's the only shady person working within the legal system?

I think there are a couple of "bad apples" in every orchard. But note that they go to jail when they are investigated and caught.

That's a LOT different than routinely telling clients that you "know the Crown and can make the charges go away". For every corrupt lawyer, there are a few hundred honest ones.

Most of dealing in law is negotiation . Who you know is just as important as what you know.
Especially in criminal law.

Oagre is trying to convince me that there's zero chance of these guys being able to pull of shit other than taking a plea bargin.

There's no way that something was done for that judge to "believe" Rick Vaive wasn't drunk. Absolutely zero.

For this guy to almost hit someone in a parking lot, reek of booze, piss his pants, stumble while walking and fail the breathalyzer test big time, and the judge to basically say "I believe him", is ridiculous.

Now you got me to go and look up the Rick Vaive case. 90 minute judical decision. Lots of medical evidence supporting Vaive. Inconsistency between the cop's testimony and the video at the police station. That's enough for reasonable doubt.

Unless you're suggesting the judge got paid off by Barry. If so, I suggest you call the Judicial Committee and complain about her right away. I'm sure they'll listen to you.

I can't imagine why the prosecutor didn't complain about both the judge and Barry and have them both imprisoned. He didn't even appeal the acquittal. He must have been bribed as well.

I fixed your post for you.

BTW, I forgot what reputable reputations lawyers have. I wonder how they got the nickname "sharks".

Jessica, I can walk into the office of a Crown that I've never met and probably cut as good a deal as with someone I've know for 15 years. The system is principled and lawyers look at facts and law, not who you had a beer with in law school.

This must be the most naïve judge in Ontario.

Oarge, I may not be a lawyer but I am not a fucking idiot either. I have hired lawyers based on their rep in that local court. There are lawyers that have speciality areas. You have lawyers that have built thier honourable reps. These play. In Durham, a local lawyer with an honest rep will have a better chance at negotiating a better deal or at least making the deal faster(ie saving money for the client) then some wannabe hot shot out of Toronto. That is a fact.

I didn't say buddy buddy relationship. I never even inferred that. But you can not sell me what you dishing out. Lawyers, crowns, judges are all human and human relationships play a part in negotiations.

When it was his turn to speak, Bullard kept it brief: “I want to try and rebuild my life,” he said. “I have no intention of contacting her in any shape or form.”

“It won’t happen again Your Honour,” he said.

Friday evening, Bullard tweeted about the case, referring to the #MeToo movement against sexual assault and harassment.

“Ps not a me too thing,” he wrote.

So he goes and tweets about it , what an idiot

When your lawyer chalks it up to wilful blindiness and just handling falling in love badly, how can you expect someone to really see the erro of their ways.

"It was wilful blindness,” Calvin Barry, Bullard’s lawyer, said in court. “He fell in love and dealt with it inappropriately.”

NO - it was harassment!!! Call it how it is And maybe we will have less stalking harassing assholes who can't handle a break up

Jessica, lawyers channel a lot of sheer bullshit at sentencing hearings. The judge keeps a straight face, but might believe about 20% of what the lawyer is saying.

So no sense getting pissed at it. It's just Calvin Barry earning - apparently, from what I read in this thread - his coke money for the week.
