Then why didnt the judge put Bullard in jail?? Favourable treatment because he's a celeb maybe??
That. The judge may not have found the initial domestic charges convincing. Bullard's lawyer may have grovelled and offered up this unusual and onerous term that he not leave the house without a chaperone. Etc.

Judge could just have thought that Bullard would get a kicking in jail and decided to protect him. I once had a gay, effeminate client who flaked out on a couple of court dates. Normally that's a guarantee of a prison stint. No judge would take the risk of putting him in jail though, because they figured he might be badly hurt.

I wasn't at that bail hearing. Could have been any / all of the above plus 100 things I haven't even thought of.

Former talk show host Mike Bullard sees two charges against him dropped

The former TV and radio talk show host no longer faces charges of obstructing justice and criminal harassment.
Bullard’s brush with the criminal justice system stems from criminal harassment charges laid in the fall of 2016 relating to ex-girlfriend Cynthia Mulligan, a CityNews reporter. He was also previously charged with breaching previous bail conditions.
Bullard had been ordered not to have any contact with Mulligan, his previous surety and witnesses involved in the case.
“It was very rare and I was quite surprised,” said Bullard’s lawyer Calvin Barry when the two charges against his client were dropped. “Those were the two, by far, the most serious charges.”
A judge dismissed the charges Friday morning in a courtroom in the College Park Courthouse in downtown Toronto.
Bullard still faces charges in connection with repeated phone calls he made and for failing to comply with bail conditions and attempting to obstruct justice.
He is scheduled to appear in court June 21.
Barry said he feels confident there is no reasonable prospect of conviction on the remaining charges.
“We’re very close to resolving things,” Barry said. “It’s not in the public interest to go ahead.”

There has got to be a story behind this. 2 weeks ago, we were writing this guy off as court-house roadkill and now he's pulled off the biggest legal upset since Gian Ghomeshi.

Oagre, I'm just speculating, but it seems like Bullard is able to afford, some of the best lawyers, that Toronto, has to offer.

Here's a bio on Bullard's latest lawyer, Calvin Barry.

Maybe, that's why, Bullard's legal troubles, seem to be improving??

Also, if Bullard can somehow get out of this legal mess, then maybe he can re-launch his career again?? I, for one, certainly hope so, as I'm a huge Bullard fan. However, I highly doubt, that newstalk 1010, will give Bullard, his old job back??

I'm sure Barry is an excellent lawyer, but no one can make a case go away without some solid reason. There's something more to this.
Thanks oagre. I totally respect your opinion. As I've said before, I'm not a lawyer, and have no knowledge of how these legal charges work?? I'm just a huge Bullard fan. That's why, I read all the Bullard articles, with such interest.

I'm just wondering, what this "something more to this," means?? Maybe, because Bullard is considered a Canadian celebrity?? Who knows?? Will be interesting to see, what happens to Bullard, next??

Not because of him being a celebrity. The system won't let itself be seen as obviously favouring the rich and famous.

The complainant has been caught out in some way and the charges are falling apart.

Oagre, I'm sorry if I sound dumb, but are you saying that allegedly something might be wrong with Cynthia Mulligan's version, of what really happened between herself and Bullard??

Exactly. That is my guess. It will be interesting to see what leaks out at trial.

Thanks oagre. I really appreciate your excellent responses in this thread, and on terb in general!! I'll be watching for future Bullard articles. This whole Bullard fiasco, has got me really fascinated with the whole legal process, of what constitutes domestic assault etc

In other words, the way things ended between Bullard and Mulligan, was so controversial. Especially, since both of them are public figures!!

Bullard is a write off. He needs to get his life in order before he ends up like Tony Rosato.

Needs a better lawyer than Calvin Barry. I was charged many years ago and Calvin was the crown attorney. The guy seemed coked out and this was an early Monday morning hearing. I was on the stand, heeded my lawyers advice (yes sir, no sir, one word answers, look him in the eye etc). Was on the stand for 3 minutes and he got nowhere lol. Judge dismissed the case. The guy was useless. Also, didn't he have a scandal where he was forced to resign a few years back?

Calvin Barry knows his shit, and knows many people in the inner circles of the legal system. He got former leaf captain Rick Vaive off on an impaired driving charge, which should have been an open and shut case. He obviously knew someone. Half these people know each other and do favours for each other. Vaive played golf all day, then drank all night and drove back from Collingwood to Toronto. Someone called the cops because he nearly hit them in a parking lot. He was pulled over, reeked of booze, could barley walk, pissed his pants and failed the breathalyzer test badly. Somehow the judge "believed" him that the he pissed himself because of a bladder problem, he was stumbling because he drove all so he was tired, the odor from alcohol was from a few beers he had 16 hours prior, and the breathalyzer machine wasn't working properly. (these days, they are like 99.9% accurate. They have them calibrated right down to the T)

What Barry does, is if your high profile like Rick Vaive and you retain him, you get his full attention. If you retain him because of his high profile status and your joe schmo, he'll take your money, and you'll never see him again. He'll send some lackey on his behalf to represent you, and you'll probably lose because the lackey doesn't know his ass from elbow.

He has an extremely shady past. He used to be on the bar, and had to leave because he was suspected in being involved in some type scam. Can't recall what it was. So he then opened his own practice as a defense lawyer.

He was also charged with sexual assault but walked on that charge as well.

Many people who meet him suspect he's a coke head.

I nominate this for the most bullshit post of the year from someone who knows absolutely fuck all about the legal system and how it works!

Well then you need to do your homework my friend, because you obviously don't know what the fuck your talking about.

Why don't you call his office and tell him you've been charged with DUI (his now "specialty"). He'll ask you what court your being tried in. Tell him some like college park and see what the first words out of his mouth are. I almost guarantee he saying something to the effect of "oh, I know a lot of people in that court".

I'm sure he says a bunch of stuff to get clients. But I have been a lawyer for 30 years and the system does not work in any sense the way you want to believe. So your post is still bullshit.

No one walks because their lawyer "knows someone". If Barry is that unethical, he will prey on idiots like you to get extra fees and clients. But it's a scam. He'll take whatever money he can up front and then cut a plea bargain where you plead guilty and he'll tell you: "Man, this is a MEAN crown. A total asshole. I can't deal with this jerk. You better plead."
