C63 is useless in winter. Plus, AMG cars depreciate like no other car on the market. But, if you must have a Benz, and need it for the winter, then take a look at the awd C43. It was introduced as the C450 AMG Sport in '16, but for marketing reasons, renamed it the C43. It's been getting great reviews, although one "downside" is you may be looked down upon by other AMG drivers because this car isn't "one man, one engine". Who cares though, right? It's not like they're make your monthly payments. And it's available in sedan, coupe, or cabrio.

I really like the styling of the Benz (C63 or C43), the new RS5 from Audi is a beast of a car, and BMW combines performance driving with luxury like few other automakers can. First world problems, eh?

Go for lots of test drives. Ask lots of questions. Read the reviews. It's a lot of money, so don't just rush into a decision you may regret later.
If you decide to get an AMG, dont get the C43. It is not a real amg

I had a early 60s Vette that was stolen from a garage when it was getting detailed, the cops chased it and the thief rolled it into the ditch .. convertible, summer use only ... was a write off ... the thief was in bad condition afterwards... so any ideas of driving convertible/softtop for me are a big NO. Still think about the car all the time.

This is why I will never buy a ragtop, ever!!
All it takes is a soft highway shoulder, and you're tumbling.

Ferrari's take care of their drivers. If you look at those thingies behind the headrest of the drivers, those are rollbars which will protect the driver in case he rolls the damn thing.

Roll over protection?!?!?

to get these 3 specific high end verts' to the USA, there is a NHSI that is very very stringent.
It will not sell at all if it fails....

it passed!

Yeah, the bumps behind the seats are "disguised" rollbars.

You will need them when you roll your Ferrari in a ditch somewhere in Muskoka........LOL

How many people here have rolled a car?

If the only reason to not buy a convertible is the risk of rolling then don't drive like a maniac.

A roll bar is false security as it assumes you are going to land upside down on a flat surface. A rock or tree stump an inch or two off where the roll bar will open your head up.

Well, Mr. AMG, a guy who has owned more AMGs than pretty much anyone, says it is. And more importantly, Mercedes-Benz says it is. Who are you to say otherwise?

Im finding it hilarious that some of you think the c63 is useless in the winter. I have been driving my c63 in the winter and not an issue at all. I live in the suburbs as well. Lets be honest here, our cars have so much technology plus the roads do get plowed. It isnt an issue

Obviously you slap on good winters like ws80 and dont drive like a retard.

Winter is actually my fav time for the c63, really works the handling. There are amg academy courses for winter as well. Quite exhilarating what these cars can do. Amg cars handles winters just fine.
To be fair, I was just paraphrasing some reviews that I read and questions that I've asked because I too am in the market for a new vehicle. From what I've gathered, a lot of C63 drivers park their cars during the winter, and only drive it when conditions are ideal. That's not to say that the car is useless, maybe just owners would rather not take the risk of anything happening. But I do agree that a good set of winters are a must, especially with a RWD car.

Is your car a W204 or W205? And also, being a "real" AMG owner, what are your thoughts on the new C43, or even the new 43 line-up in general?

The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is an awesome car. Its engine is basically a Ferrari V8 that has 2 cylinders removed. No AWD, though.

Mine is a w204. The w205 would handle winter conditions even better. I have driven both gens pretty extensively but ultimately could not give up the NA v8 engine. Although the interior and really, the handling of the w205 is superb. I have also spent considerable 'track' time with both platforms amongst other amg models in various tracks in canada. Ithey handle well. Obviously the w205 being superior as it was designed to compete with the m3 around a track.

also there are alot of local benz resource spots specifically for canada. I am actually more inclined to say that people winter drive their c63s than store it. I mean, ultimately its only a c63 and not a rarri or lambo. Although i do have peers that winter drive lambos lol. But yea, ive been on car cruises in the winter with over 20c63s. It happens. No accidents if ppl know how to drive and aint stupid

As for the c43 or any 43s for that matter. There are a lot of fan boys that brand it a non amg. Personally i think it is and it mixes the best of both worlds. Performance and fuel efficiency. Yes it doesnt excel in either but its a nice compromise on both. The 63 pretty much fucks off on gas as you want full power. My fuel bill on an easy month is easily over 1k. Avg is approx 370km per tank so i fuel quite often as its my daily driver. The 63 styling is more aggressive however if that makes a difference

On performance alone, I would be going for M4 or M6. In the UK, they're cheaper too. Lots of stage 1 remapping options for the m4 too!

The c63 got a v8 engine, so the soundtrack is amazing!

A c43 would not even come close to "real" Amgs or M cars.

Thanks for your reply. My point was that most people that can afford a car like that will likely have a 2nd or 3rd car. If you can avoid the road salt and gravel of winter, why wouldn't you? Also many Lambos come with AWD, although its not exactly optimized for winter. Regardless, if caught out in a blizzard, I would rather have AWD over RWD. I agree though, a good set of winters, take it easy and you should be alright.

I agree with your comments on the 43s. I've test driven the C300 and C43 (haven't driven the new C63 yet, but been a passenger in a few) and the differences between the two warrant the AMG badge, especially with the performance exhaust. Who cares what other people consider what's "real" or not, or if it competes with this or that on a track. Let's be honest, most owners will never see a track. As long as you're happy with what you drive, who cares what some online fanbois think.

Wow, that's not very good fuel mileage. Maybe "AMG" stands for; "All Money Gone", JK. Probably a reason why MB started using turbos. There is a price to pay when driving these cars, whether its having to use premium fuel, or paying higher insurance rates. More 1st world problems, I guess.

One more question, if you'll indulge me; coupe or sedan (or convertible)?

I've owned a BMW M6 , two BMW M3, 1 SLK 55, 3 C63, and driven the M4, a middle aged M5. I've also driven a SLS at Mosport and for a couple of weeks on the street. By far the most enjoyable on the street or track was my C63 507. Strictly as a track car I prefer the SLS, but you could buy about 2 1/2 "C63 507" for the price of a SLS. I loved the bellow of the big beautiful V-8, especially over 6000 RPM. I've never enjoyed an all wheel or four wheel drive as much as an old fashioned rear wheel drive. And in the winter nothing is more fun than a well balanced naturally aspirated rear wheel drive with a decent set of winter tires. All wheel drive is more sure footed and safer, but to my mind it acts like an anaesthetic. I also like my rear wheel drive naturally aspirated 911 with a manual better than the all wheel drive 911 turbo. The Turbo on the other hand is SO FAST!!
For next winter I'd like a Civic type R, and in the summer I will stick to my 911. as for the question of sedan, coupe or ragtop... my vote(s) go to sedan and ragtop.
