People who make comments like this do not understand the nature an purpose of insurance. Why have car insurance if you never plan on getting in an accident? Why have life insurance if you never plan on dieing?

Yes and if the US transitions into UHC from its current state of being unhealthy costs will ridiculously high
Actually it could. The reason why they think it will cost so much is they are assuming allowing the doctors and medical consortums to charge their existing prices. That's not the way it works. They are told the prices they can charge and not allowed to over bill.

But even the costs on the doctors, clinics and hospitals go down. First because admin costs go down with only having to get money from one payer. And more importantly they get paid everytime. Did you know about 60% of all bankruptcies in the USA are medically related? That ends or is severely reduced.

There is also the tort reform that will have to be done. There is no need for expense and time wasting lawsuits when the state covers many medical issues arising from negligence. So malpractice suits(did you know doctors pay up to 1/3 their salaries to malpractice insurance?) are also greatly reduced.

And by removing the profit margin, resetting prices to reasonable levies for drugs, and most of all making healthcare not about the bottom line but the health of the patient first you get better outcomes.

To allow time for the medical establishment to adjust gradually raise the the bar for medicaid qualification until everyone is covered and combine in Medicare admin.

It isn't a difficult as it looks.

No they were seriously considering it and did the math and concluded it wouldn't work given the current costs in the USA

It works in other countries because healthcare already costs less, so spreading the cost around to all citizens requires less taxation than it would in the USA.

Also, their populations are smaller and their people are healthier

Maybe if the USA did healthcare for all 100 years ago and stuck with it, we would be in a better position today

But to transition into it now will be ludicrously expensive
Certainly the USA could have done universal healthcare cheaper and easier back when the rest of the developed world did it in the fifties. But it's sad to imagine that great country admitting it just can't manage to get it done, when the evidence is indisputable that universal, single payer healthcare is cheaper, better and more efficient than the costly, inefficient make-do patchwork Americans have to deal with now.

President Nimrod has insulted so many people that he has no cache with either Congress or The Senate. With both houses GOP dominated it should have been a walk in the park for him. And America's security apparatus despises him. If he fires or forces out Sessions, he will become chum in the water.

Eventually America will have a Swedish style health care regime...try not to blink excessively when reading that.

I don't think so Aardie, the Swedish system still has a bidding process for medical technology. Americans like some form of private contribution to the system.

Before that can happen the dinosaurs (Trump, McConnell and Pelosi) have to go extinct. Then Americans can celebrate their new snazzy universal health care.

And there will be much rejoicing...

All GOP proposals have been defeated in the senate. They're moving on.

And STILL no direction from Trump. No proposal from the WH. Nothing. He's trying to shirk the blame, but we all know where the buck stops.

Trump has no ideas, no plan .. just hot air. Trump supporters love fluff but can't follow substance so while Trump promised that he had a replacement for Obama care that covered everyone with low cost, etc, etc., ... it was bullshit swallowed up by followers unable to realise there was no plan.

Remember that Trump is a racist who hates Obama because he was a black president -period. The crap about being from Africa, etc was racist rhetoric that brought in racists and bigots to the fold as he campaigned. Trump wants Obama's name removed from everything and his backing out of the Paris accords, getting rid of Obama Care and repealing consumer protection laws was just to erase the black man's legacy.

Or more likely a Swiss system
It does not matter if it is the swiss, Canadian, UK, Danish, Sweden, German, French universal healthcare. All civilized nations has a universal Health care system vastly superior to the American free market system. (Cuba may have the best system.)

Which is astounding.

There's a problem and there are left wing and right wing solutions. You and I no doubt prefer single payer, but there are various right wing solutions to make health care more affordable.

Even if Trump is too stupid to think of one it's amazing that he didn't hire somebody to think of one. There are many think tanks that would have helped him if he asked.

All he needed to do was come out swinging for some particular solution and he could likely have gotten the public behind it which would have caused people to demand their senators vote for it. Given speeches praising it, sent out his people to explain it. Gotten voters excited about an idea.

Could have gotten something done. Anything. Something would have gotten done which is better than nothing getting done.

But he utterly failed to lead.
