Unfortunately the death of Alan Thicke made me think of the most influential shows that has affected me. It is amazing how many were British. The wittiest show IMHO ever made was Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister followed closely by Rumpole of the Old Bailey. Monty Python was also great. The American shows depended on my age. When I was very young it was Leave it to Beaver. Next show I loved was Kung Fu. I then enjoyed Seinfeld and The Big Bang Theory. Currently the only show is a must see for me is Game of Thrones. I know there are plenty of other great shows but I just haven't got into them.
Just wondering what other shows from the past or present captured your imagination, which is what this is all about. Cheers

Indiana, I had bought the whole series of MASH last Christmas and have enjoyed watching it very much. MASH is timeless, even today the stories are as good as they were when MASH was launched in the 70's 7 finished in the 80's

The series premiered in the U.S. on September 17, 1972, and ended on February 28, 1983, with the finale, showcased as a television film, titled "Goodbye, Farewell and Amen", becoming the most-watched and highest-rated single television episode in U.S. television history at the time, with a record-breaking 125 million viewers

Sesame street. I got off to a good start in school because of that show. It made learning fun. God bless Jim Henson.

I can honestly and thankfully say that ther isn't a tv show I hold up as having influenced me as a child to be notable.

I'm sure some would have influenced me subliminally or via osmosis. But I didn't watch a huge amount.

The closest I think would have been the original airing of Roots despite my tender age my parents let be watch it. It scared me but under the safety of a blanket I soldered on.

Well you shouldn't have been soldering under a blanket, that's a fire hazard.

I agree, parents who let their child solder under a blanket are very irresponsible.

One of the first films I ever saw was The Beatles Help! Leo McKern made that movie and he was brilliant as Horace Rumpole. He could do everything, he also played Gloucester in Laurence Olivier's King Lear.

The most influential show, because it is still too relevant, The Wire:

Omar meets The Cleaner - you knows things don't look good when you cross paths with someone with a gun and a bowtie:

Kids in The Hall. Great Canadian comedy show. Gave me my sick and twisted sense of humour. And made me aware and accepting of alternative lifestyles. All the guys dressed as women. And Scott Thompson was openly gay. To this day the skits on that show make me laugh. And I can recite them word for word.

As for shows from my formative years, WKRP and Barney Miller.

Working my way through the BM series and they are as funny as ever. Great characters and great actors portraying them. (Ron Glass recently passed away.)

WKRP on the other hand.... Couldn't even make it through a full season. Way too cartoonish. Too painful to watch.
