Going to the 17th inning, Jays have had several chances to win this but can't get the big hit.

been a baseball fan for over 50 years....this is the worst umpire I have ever seen...he should be fired
This fcuking umpire (behind the plate) is so biased it looks like he is on the take.

BTW: The worse single umpire call I ever saw was the umpire who called infield fly on a Texas Leaguer. Yeah, the ball actually did land safely in the outfield.

BTW 2: I think the Indians still hold the season record for most wins ever.

Barney now pitching, this has turned into a joke. Jays might as well just forfeit this one.

Both teams ran out of steam a bit towards the end.

Also Jays handicapped by not having Encarnacion and Martin for much of the game. If both had stayed on the field it could have been a quite different result.

Jays facing suspensions now because of those blow-ups. Umpiring behind the plate was bad.

This is really pathetic.

I cannot believe that they threw the game. This is really embarrassing for the franchise.

I only hope that this is not a bad turning point on this season.

The entire organization should be ashamed of this!

who would you have pitched ref?? I said the umpire was terrible. The crew chief, long time ump John Hirschbeck was working second base and probably saw how bad the game was called. Lets hope that he gets disciplined and not the players. Hard enough to hit strikes, they cant hit balls. But the blame goes to the offence in any case, 1 run in 19 innings is a disgrace

Correct. Every team's pitching staff should be built to deal with a 19 inning game. After all, they must happen at least once every 3 or 4 seasons.

Gimme a break. Every team would be struggling and do kooky things in a game like this.

I would have put in a starter - Sanchez, Estrada, Happ...

This is just another example of how bad this team has been managed.

When a big league team throws a game, it is truly a sad state of affairs.

Shame on this organization.

Most teams will look at the next day starter or a starter who is between starts.

Cleveland did...I guess that strategy did not pay off for them...

Planet reality. If a team is being blown out and you want to save the pen, then throw in a non-pitcher to finish off a game.

But when you have a chance to win, why would you put players who have never played that position in to play for you?

Don't hold your breath, MLB is notorious for protecting their umpires no matter how terrible they are.

Options:

R. A. Dickey: pitched yesterday, unavailable.
Aaron Sanchez: his throw day, hey, this could work, but he did his throwing before the game, unavailable.
Marco Estrada: has been dealing with a bad back all season, needs a lot of time/work/stretching to get loose, unavailable.
J.A. Happ: it was discussed by Hale & rest of coaching staff, they decided against it.

Sometimes you have to lose a battle to win the war.

The bullpen, including Goins & Barney were not the problem today.
They combined for 12 1/3 innings, giving up 1 run.

I haven't seen much written in this thread today about the vaunted Blue Jays
offence's repeated inability to drive in a run from 3rd with less than 2 out.

Absolutely the offence was to blame.

I also wouldve left Goins in to pitch a few more innings. He was doing well and even had his heater up to 90mph
