"Mandatory Census". Sounds like fear tactics to me. If it wasn't mandatory no one would do it, right? This way they can get the vast majority of Canadians to do it. And think of all the pretty pie/bar charts they'll be able to do now.

What about our charter of rights? This infringes on those right. Does it not? I have nothing to hide but I just don't trust the Government with our personal data. Even more so now that we're sharing more and more personal data with the U.S. That's one nation you don't want to share your personal info with. Speaking of not trusting the U.S. Government, I can't wait for that Snowden movie. I'm sure it'll be loosely based on his story, but there must be some truth?

It is the law of the land you are supposed to respect so much that (for the short form anyways) simply ask how many ppl live at this address, their ages, native languages and yes, their names.

The law is very specific on the permitted uses of this information... STATISTICS.

"The Government" already has way more detailed and personal information on you through the CRA, OHIP, etc. But the la prevents these agencies from cross sharing of this private information between agencies. And for good reason.

Plus, they can always just read the chip the government implanted in your brain anyways!

I tried calling their bluff and not do it last time.
They actually came back after me with more and more legal type threats.
So I did it eventually.

How can they come after you when your name's not even on the census? It's just an address. For all they know, you could have moved out of the country.

They will come to your residence if you don't fill one out . It may be a piece of paper but it has a code number which you use to punch in to do it on line . That code number has your address . It's simply enough for them to check to see who belongs to that address . They're not as stupid as one may think .

Last census they came to my home . I have 2 properties with a house on each . I live at one and the other was empty at the time so I didn't bother to fill one out for the empty home . They said it doesn't matter if no one lives there . It still needs to be filled out and just show that no one stayed there that night . So I did . Problem solved.

If anyone has a hard time to fill out a simple piece of paper than so be it . They can tell the judge why you thought it wasn't necessary . After your done doing that you can PAY your lawyer before you go to jail . If your lucky you will pay a fine and maybe have to do some community work . If you don't want to go through all of that shit and waste valuable time and money then just fill out the damn form .

The Feds know that many people lie . It's to be expected . They just compare the new information from the previous census . They also go have a look at the Federal Tax returns . This way they know what the average household income is all areas .

I completed my census form last night; it was the short version. Census data is critical for the development of public policy. Also, census data is analysed by a variety of academic disciplines for historical, economic, and anthropological reasons. It's important, it's the law, and it helps make our great country even better.
