In my view, the government's law imposing on citizens the obligation to fill out the census does not violate the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
If you try to hire a lawyer to go to court and make the argument that it does, you would just lose the case and waste a lot of money on legal fees. You might also set one more precedent to add to the constitutional law textbooks that the poor law students have to read in law school. And from that moment on, every law student and lawyer in the country will know you as that guy who tried to challenge the census.

In the above case knowing how many actually live in an area can be referenced for any number of things, from hospital allocation, school allocation, road needs etc.
Languages my be to see if further ESL is needed in the area.

You got the short census not the 45 to 1hr census. It's a completely different survey. Much less invasive line of questioning.
This exact same issue was on talk radio today. Apparently Statscan sell's this information to businesses and associations.
