I actually umpired hundreds of kids games...up to age 17 and high level. Umpiring the plate is work, but establishing your strike zone is not. Yes major leaguers throw hard and aim for corners, but it either crosses your zone or not. Base umping is actually harder to get it right, all those bang bang plays......and here is where major league umpires are very good...and checked swings too...

When I saw the umpires come out on thursday, i said oh oh...because of Marquez and Hudson being in the crew. I did not know that Vic the Sick would be so bad.

All that being said, you could almost read the minds of Jay batters in extra innings - picturing themselves hitting the walk off home run....

Something else not discussed...RA Dickey went to the bullpen during the game....wonder what it would have been like if he had come in instead of Hawkins (or Hendriks).....

Osuna and Sanchez did well on a positive note

I notice that Fox is very reluctant to show the electronic tracking of pitches - probably at the request of MLB! But I love the ESPN rectangle over the plate that really shows just how bad it is.
I noticed a couple of times where they did have the box and the pitch to the Jays batter missed the box, the announcers were saying, "Ohhh. The pitch just grazed the strike zone".

Another controversy, the Jays play better with the dome open but MLB made them close it for the 2 games. Go figure. I understand maybe why it was closed for game 2 but not for game 1.

The players just choked. They were uncharacteristically booting the ball, swinging at bad pitches, and pitching poorly. No other way to explain than they were under pressure.

The loss of Cecil is huge and that may spell the end of our playoff hopes.

Ive played a sport at a fairly competitive level and in high pressure you have to play intense but loose. Have to trust your instincts that you developed all season.

Lets hope they play they way they can on Sunday and go from there.
Lasted until they were out of the 1st inning on Friday. All the crazy build-up about getting into the playoffs for the first time in 22 years, the wacko fan support. It ended up mind-fucking the guys through Game 1 and into Game 2.

The bad calls went both ways. Take a look at @Bluejaysump on Twitter
They were. His strike zone was all over the place, and even Bob Costas got one obvious strike wrong on pitch tracker.

Time to stop blaming the slow artificial turf, the umps, the ball, the closed roof, the towel girls, the wind direction........etc.........etc.

This team is very, very good, but also terribly inexperienced. I could see that from the first few innings, all our players looked tentative and a bit insecure. Its to be expected.

Even if we dont advance, lets build on this team like we did in 1991 and try to propel ourselves into the WS over the next 5 years

Everyone is an expert once they know the results.
True... but any idiot knows that you don't stifle momentum going in to the playoffs! Which is exactly what Gibbons did. A buddy of mine and I were saying this a week ago after they lost game 2 of the double header and then the Friday game as well...

I've seen that video about 10 times and for the life of me I don't understand how Cecil hurt himself so badly?

Called a freak accident. Like NY SS Tejadas broken leg last night, can happen anytime pros take the field.
That's why Gibbons was right to rest the stars when the Jays clinched the AL east.

It's the law of averages, we got lucky with Donaldson but we lost Cecil.

The Rangers pitchers aren't hurling any big fat taters. If the Jays want to extend this series they better start stringing hits together instead of swinging for the fences. How can Texas lose if the Jays continue to gift them long fly outs.

The difference between a fly out and a HR is a couple of inches along the barrel of the bat. Same as the difference between a dribbler to 2nd and a clean hit through the gap into the outfield. The only downside to swinging for the fences is if your swing gets long and you miss the ball entirely.

Gibby has said Dickey will be game 4 starter (assuming we win today)

These double plays against us will come back to haunt us. I just know it. When opportunity knocks you have to kick the door down, not hit into double plays, especially with revere and Donaldson coming to bat. BTW: Utley suspended 2 games.

Jays up 2-0 in the 5th, however they should have a much bigger lead as they've hit into 3 double plays with men on base. You can't afford to waste scoring chances in the playoffs.
