I think all of MLB has been moving towards greater parity over the past 5 years or so... which is great for baseball!

Tell that to the US branch of the Oagre family in St Louis. :p

Still promoting my Hutch for Cy Young and MVP idea LOL.
I still find him a perplexing problem-they are winning when he pitches, and that may be the bottom line. Could you not use Stroman in another capacity until Hutch does stop winning? I would keep him starting but be ready to pull the plug quickly.

I think Pillar is having a better year than Ellsbury.
Ellsbury was hurt for a significant time. Pillar is doing well, playing very well in centre field but not hitting at all lately. A .260 avg with little power isn't tough to replace, but the Jays don't need offence from him so he has been a good fit for them this year. Ellsbury is a much better major league ball player than Pillar.

Ellsbury makes 21.8 Million, and Pillar makes 512,000. He's better, but he ain't that much better.

Who would have thought that pitching would now be our strength? The difficulty is we are overlooking a few problems on offence that should be addressed. Donaldson, Bautista and the three first basemen are carrying the full offensive load. Tulowitzki is not a lead off hitter (take away that first game, he is below .200 with the jays), Pillar may never get that 40th rbi or 8 th homer, and Martin is inconsistent. Revere hitting the ball in the air with warning track power. But maybe our strengths are so good that we can keep overcoming all that - but why risk it....get Tulo out of the lead off spot now. The other problems are coaching and managing issues.

Here is my sacrilege for today. I wish they had kept Valencia and possibly Carrera if the numbers game allowed , and made Pillar the fourth outfielder or sent him to Buffalo to work on his hitting. Check Valencia`s numbers against Pillar`s and the slight drop in outfield defence would be tolerable. Revere would be just as good in centre, but it would make us a little weaker in left.

I think we are the best team in baseball right now, but Kansas City and St. Louis are awfully good too and will be tough to beat in playoffs unless we get more guys contributing on offence and our pitching holds steady.

And I almost made it through a whole post without mentioning Gibbons or Walker. Almost

Ellsbury is an aging vet , his speed is greatly diminished and that's where much of his value came from. Getting paid $21million this year to post a WAR of 1.1 . He's owed $110 million over the next 5 years! LOL
Pillar is getting league minimum salary and has a WAR of 3.1 , if he ever starts hitting, look out! He's team controlled through 2020!

Defensive Runs Saved in 2015

Ellsbury -3
Colby Rasmus +5
Anthony Gose -3
.
.
.
Kevin Pillar +18

LOL

Wow Perry, never knew I had that sort of sway.

...for the continuing love of A-Roid.

Sportsnet did a feature about a Canadian tennis named Phil Bester who is attempting to re-start his career after hip surgery. That is a daunting task but maybe the technology has advanced to point that it is possible, A-Rod's output so far this season is remarkable. Too bad Bo Jackson and Roberto Baggio never had that option. I wonder if A-Rod will avail himself to an energetic cowgirl when he comes to town. It's not like it will affect his game, when the games are crucial he comes up limp.

I just got back from New York. I was at the game on Saturday. I had bleacher tickets, I will tell you there was so many Bluejays fans in the bleachers more than yankees fans, When they Bluejays fans were cheering it was amazing feeling you could tell the yankee fans were jealous. It was a beautiful stadium I will tell you, I saw monument park great. But the best feeling was seating with the Bluejays fans. Go Jays Go

It would be a significant drop off.

They've been coaching great, haven't they? The results speak for themselves, as was your argument when the results were not so good. Gotta use the exact same criteria.

There is talk that Pompey will be the 4th outfielder.

TT's batting average is not where it should be but his power and defense is a huge upgrade from the previous incumbent. Right now, I don't see any weak spots defensively and that is why we are winning games scoring only 2-4 runs.

Add Roemon Fields to the mix, the guy can flat out run, fastest player in the Jays system. Would be deadly as a late inning pinch runner when rosters expand. In the outfield, Fields' range factor per game this year is 2.60 , which is elite level. Pompey is at 2.36 which is pretty good as well. (for comparison Pillar is at 2.83) Simply put Fields gets to more balls and makes more outs than Pompey. There is talk AA may swing a deal for an outfielder but I think we have 2 pretty good in-house options already.

The defense has helped the pitching, no doubt about it. Just 2 weeks ago we had glaring holes in left field and SS.

Also good to see Smoak smoking 4 balls last night, looks like he's starting to heat up again after a rough stretch.

Tulo and Revere haven't clicked into gear yet. Pillar is in a slump. DevTrav is out. EE is injured. Smoak doesn't get enough playing time. The offence is there, just not right now.

Here is how I would set the batting order:

1. Travis
2. Colabello DH
3. Donaldson
4. Bautista
5. EE
6. Tulo
7. Martin
8. Pillar
9. Revere

Travis struggled when he hit leadoff but has been great when lower in the order. Would you seriously mess around with Donaldson who has been awesome hitting 2nd? Those are my concerns. Tulowitzki hasn't been great for the Jays yet but he is still a proven commodity and shouldn't be getting less at bats than Colabello.

I think he has had a period of about one month in his short career where he hit. I don't see him as a good hitter, and Ellsbury has comparable power, better speed, better OPS. This is during a year where he has performed below standards for him and Pillar has been better this year than his previous levels of play. Yes, Pillar could start hitting again any tme. Or possibly never again. Not enough information to go on, we're just guessing.
