Costanza, I'm glad you can finally admit there's been a dropoff. Question now becomes is it because of his bum shoulder, or because he's aging.

Either way he's tradebait IMO. Someone else brought up the point Phils wont trade Papelbon for EE straight up which is true, but a package deal sounds mighty enticing
Admit there's a drop off? Where did I deny there had been a drop off?

What's the market for aging/injured substandard defensively 1st basemen/DH's these days?

bottom of the ninth, marlins 3, jays 2....marlins closer in to save...man on first and EE hits it over centerfield fence....just 13 days ago.....but mutes celebration pointing to his sore shoulder

he has many clutch hits....but with Smaok and Colabello around, not to mention Zeke cuz nobody does......maybe he is good trade bait...but he has done great things for jays

Well.....whats the market for an aging closer like Papelbon?? Apparently plenty.

You could market EE as a top slugger who still has a decade left just like A-Rod did, except he just hit a little slump right now.

Doesnt matter if its true or not, thats how you gotta sell him to the Phils.

Now let me ask you, who would YOU trade for pitching??
And I think we can agree we need pitching

Plenty. EE is an elite player when he is well. He can hit .280 w 40 HR's and 100+ RBI's. There are simply not a lot of people in the world who can do that. Ask A-Rod, Pujols, Trout, etc. A player of EE's talent is worth a #1 starter. EE plus a top prospect is worth King Felix.

This is pretty basic baseball mathematics.

First of all, I would look for depth not superstars. An experienced reliever who throws mid 90's and has an ERA of 2.50 would do. Emphasis on the "experienced" part. That's your closer. A decent #3 quality starter as well. Maybe even bring Happ back from Seattle.

We just need something ADEQUATE. Jays will win with offence. It's what they're built to do. They need ENOUGH pitching. Not Kerzner, Archer and Felix as the rotation.

Asking them to win with pitching is like buying a 4x4 and asking it to behave like a Lambo.

well, the genius manager is benching Martin, Donaldson and Goins tonite.....anybody have any idea why? If there is no reason, then he has to go now! But hey Rasmussen and Redmond are here to save the pitching staff

and if you just want an adequate starter...why is Felix Doubront in Buffalo?

I think Martin gets 1 or 2 games rest every cycle through the starting rotation. He can still pinch hit tonight and come in defensively.

Donaldson hasn't missed a game yet so probably just a chance to give him a breather. His numbers haven't been good the last couple weeks.

Kawasaki is a left handed bat against the Rays righty starter tonight. No surprise there.

Funny to see Navarro batting cleanup tonight, not sure what the rationale is there. LOL

Much as I love EE, he has been breaking the chain quite a lot over the past month. I was wondering if moving down the BO would be happening.

Not seeing it from his stats w the Bisons. Looks like he needs more seasoning.

Phils are looking to dump salary not take on 10 million. They want young prospects. They have a roster loaded with highly paid veterans.

Navarro has 3 hits, Homer, 3 runs now. Kawasaki has an excellent relay throw to get an out at third. Valencia has an rbi as well.

looks like some good choices so far.

Papelbon pitched the 9th in the Phils win over the Yanks. he gave up 3 hits and 2 runs. Jays all ready have relievers that do that regularly!:frusty:
