Are Motomaster Tires Any Good?

I need to get 4 new tires for my car and saw that Motomaster tires are on sale this week at Canadian Tire for 25% off.
Total of 74.99 each plus extra for install taxes recycling etc.

Similar name brand tires from Goodyear and Michelin and so on cost about 125. each at Costco.

Just wondering if anyone has anything good or bad to say about Motomaster tires before I settle on something.

I've used them on my car for about 4 yrs. now...terrible in snow so snow tires are a must. Not good on wet pavement in terms of stopping quickly. I even spin sometimes when accelerating from stops on wet pavement, even tho I'm easy on the accelerator. I will probably spend a little more on my next set just for peace of mind in more wet condiitions. I don't regret buying them, however.

It is true that you get what you pay for. I have a set of Nokian Hakkapeliitta tires for winter. As the original tire wore out I bought Good Year Tires to replace them for summer driving, Whether you buy Canadian Tire brand, Goodyear or Nokian Tires there are different levels of quality. In all brands the heat rating, wear rating and speed ratings will vary, the more you pay the better the tire. If the tires are for everyday driving in the summer months, CDN Tire brand tires will do just fine. I have always had winter tires on my car so I can not tell you how they are on snow. With the 25% discount you probably can not do better at that price point.

i have a pair on my Rav , been great to me , even wear ,I put over 60 k on them Total Terran is name, 3 trips to Saskatchewan in winter and 1 to Grande Prairie in winter as well , would buy again , not a fan of the store and never buy a battery from them .

If you're in the GTA maybe try tires23 is 'sauga or simplytires at Keele and Finch.

They'll hook you up with something better.

Never hesitate to check your local tire shops for deal too.

I'd prefer to go with nexxen from Walmart if I had to go really budget.

Canadian Tire do not manufacture tires. Lots of manufacturers produce private label stuff. The trick is finding out who actually manufactured the tire. The other consideration is the total cost of tire plus installation and balancing, resetting TPMS if you have it, and what happens with your old tires.

From the few reviews on their site it seems these are a long wearing, hard rubber compound tire. Designed to provide long tire life by trading off performance in the wet and cold and snow/ice that a softer rubber would provide. They have used an aggressive tread pattern to try to help this but that results in a noisier tire.

Seeing as even a $40 difference per tire adds up to less than a 30 minute incall or nude hand job , when you put that $160 over 4 years of tire life it and perhaps avoiding a single rear ender fender bender it seems like a prudent investment to find the best tire for your driving style.

If you are looking to save money, can check http://www.kijiji.ca/b-auto-parts-tires/gta-greater-toronto-area/c31l1700272 and search your car. Sometimes people install custom tires and rims on their new car and sell off the OEM tires and rims.

Motomaster are made by Cooper tires. They are fine for cost conscious consumers. Same as Walmart "no name" tires are made by larger manufacturers as well. For sure, you aren't getting peak performance like a tire twice the price would deliver. But you certainly aren't putting your life at risk either. I've used Motomaster and Walmart tires as replacements for OEM for years with no issues. I do , however, use winter tires as well.

From the top of the line to the no name tire the rating will probably be 10 for the best to 5 for the wore. The Canadian Tire brand will score a 6-7. You pay more for the quality tire. A few years ago I had Goodyear winters tire on FWD my car and came upon a hill after a storm where 6-8 cars had tried to make it up and had to back down. I just slowly powered the hill on new Goodyear winter tire. I am sure even the best brand will not give you maximum performance after 4-5 years. There are many variables to consider. Bottom line, CDN Tire rubbers and the brands they sell like Goodyear are OK.

At that price, grab 'em. Change to snows, for winter of course -- and drive carefully.

Look again at your present tires. Pick the best two and put those on the front. Put the new Motomasters on the back. Fronts and rears wear differently. Always replace both of one axle pair together. Never rotate your tires -- if they're wearing unevenly, find out why, and cure it.

If you buy one pair of new tires, always put them on the back.

Are they $74.99 in your size? Read the small print, it's "from" $74.99, which would be the smallest 13" size they offer in that particular model of tire. So unless you have an older base model Corolla, Civic, or something similar, you will have larger tires which will be more than that price. Make sure you're comparing apples to apples when shopping on price ...
