The Toronto Blue Jays have sent Miguel Castro and Scott Copeland to triple-A Buffalo, recalling pitchers Steve Delabar and Chad Jenkins in a corresponding move. The 20-year-old Castro made the Blue Jays’ Opening Day roster after an impressive spring and at one point was handed the role of closer. However, Castro struggled in the role and was eventually replaced by Brett Cecil. Castro is 0-2 with a 4.38 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 12.1 innings for Toronto.

Along with Daniel Norris and Dalton Pompey, Castro is the third Jays rookie sent to triple-A since Friday.

Copeland was recalled by Toronto on Friday and made his debut Saturday, throwing one scoreless inning in the Blue Jays’ 11-4 win over the Cleveland Indians. Copeland pitched two innings in Sunday’s loss, giving up one hit and walking two.

After being cut from the big-league camp during spring training, Delabar is 2-0 with an ERA of 1.00 and seven strikeouts over nine innings with the Buffalo Bisons. Over 18.2 innings, Jenkins is 1-1 with an ERA of 2.89 and 10 strikeouts for Buffalo.

We need a 3, 4 and a 5 starter. And we need a closer.

Good luck with all that!!

Although I will admit after that we WILL be a contender!!

Cheers!!!!! ;)

Actually, I think they need a 1,2,3,4, and 5 starter and after that you can call them a contender.
The entire starting pitching staff seems to have completely imploded.
Also, looks like Buerhle and Dickey need to go into retirement.
Also, it might have been better for Copeland to stay up here and send Hutchison down to fix all his problems. He looks completely lost out there.

I think Osuna should be in the minor leagues too.
He needs to get stretched out and developed as a starter and the best place to do that is the minor leagues at his age.
I think he's too good to be a bullpen guy and it would be better for his future if he developed as a starter in the minor leagues.
He might just be their best pitcher right now and I'd rather have him pitching 200 innings a year as a starter rather than be ghettoized as a reliever.

I don't think the St. Louis Cardinals would have put him on his current development path and they're a very smart organization.

It's also starting to look like the Jose Bautista era and his talent will be wasted on the Jays since they're unlikely to develop a pitching staff fast enough to complement what he brings to the table.
If the future is a couple of years down the road with a young starting rotation maybe consisting of Norris, Hoffman, Sanchez, Osuna, Stroman, Castro and whoever else may turn up or develop then maybe the team needs to trade Bautista and Encarnacion for younger Devon Travis like talent who can contribute meaningfully a couple of years down the road.

Billy Beane has traded a lot of guys away when they get to where Bautista and Encarnacion are now.

I'm surprised Bautista and Encarnacion havent demanded to be traded to a contender yet.

I'm not sure that is all they need, but it would be a start. Acquiring players is AA's responsibility, so you can hang that on him!

There's a concern that Martin is catching too many innings and getting tired; so, the perfect place to rest him is when Dickey's turn in the rotation comes up.

Through 7 full innings, R.A. has given up 3 base hits, and 1 run.
With just slightly better defence, the game would still be scoreless.

Excellent outing by Dickey. Jays really earned this win even though winning runs were scored on an error.

So is Cecil our temporary closer now until they find a permanent one??
