The Ford's felt they represented the majority of Torontonians the last 4 years, when they were really only representing a third of them.. The rest of their support in the 2010 election came from people who just didn't want to see Smitherman leading our city.
I don't know what you're talking about, I didn't sense any huge anti-Smitherman sentiment in the last election. I don't think it was so much a rejection of him as a reactionary vote against the City Hall.
The factions which gave us a full summer & tourist season with no garbage collection and 15 foot high piles of rubbish towering over public parks & school yards. That wasted time on bullshit like plastic bag bans, coffee cup bans, the Jarvis bike lane (and general bike lane preoccupation) the ugly mess of St.Clair, among other things. And who always poured ice water on any mention of subways, which people really want.
Half the people who voted for Ford in 2010 didn't do so because they liked him, they did so to stick it to those other guys, (who ultimately would have preferred Smitherman).
