I've only run into this situation a few times, but each time I offered my leftover parking metre ticket for free.

Who cares about trying to nickel and dime a guy a few bucks. They guy might not even have any coins on him anyway.

Absolutely give your ticket to the next guy. In fact, if there is no next guy and I see the next car over is parked illegally (no ticket showing on the dash) I stick my still valid ticket on their windshield to help some anonymous stranger catch a break.

Don't be such an ass. Pay it forward. It's about small kindnesses to your fellow man (or woman).

My appointment was cancelled which is why I had a lot of unexpired time on the meter. Anyway, I decided to use the time to do some shopping in the area (downtown Toronto).

BTW: Just curious. Do you guys also give away a Leaf hockey ticket if your date cancelled at the last minute? Or, do you try to sell the ticket?
Leaf tickets are a different ball game due to the price of the tickets and that you already have the tickets in hand. So if you can't go you can call buddies. Parking tix are low cost and you are in a distinct location where the only available people to get rid of it are the handful of people in the parking lot at the same time as you.

But since you bring up sports tickets, I've never run into that situation with my own tickets, but every once in a while a friend will have tickets to something and for whatever reason they can't go..... I've had the offer to Leafs, Raps, BJs and TFC.

And not once did they try to wheel and deal with me. They just gave it to me.

Not exactly the same, but sometimes if I see a car that has received a ticket from parking enforcement, I will take it and rip it up so they don't have to pay.

You mean ... rip it up so they don't know they have to pay and then will be shocked when they get hit with a bigger fine for failure to pay.

I offered the guy a 50% discount but somehow he felt he was entitled/deserved a 100% discount.

Giving tickets to friends and family (also co-workers in some cases) is fine but I wouldn't just give them to total strangers I meet on the street. With friends and families, I have been both a recipient and a donor.

Thank goodness it doesn't happen often but now and then I run into an idiot and a jerk.

I see this guy at the meter getting ready to pay full fare. I offered him my spot at a 50% discount. He declined. That's fine no sweat off my back.

Then, yes then, he said if he were me he would have offered the spot for free. The jerk would have accepted my spot on my dime. What a jerk!

End of rant.
You're the jerk. You've already spent the money.. No matter what you're out. The nice thing to do would be to offer it up for free.. All YOU are doing is trying to get a discount on YOUR parking. Sure he's saving money, but that's not why you're fucking doing it.. That's simply what had to happen for YOU to save some money. You're not a knight in shining armour, you're just an opportunist.

If I pay for parking and leave well before my time is up, then I always offer it up for free to the next person (often times I just leave my tag stuck in the machine so I never even see the next person).

Stop trolling us. You must have anticipated your post would generate this negative response from most people.

Lol, then don't respond to a troll.

In anycase - I would buy a 50 percent off ticket if it was $10 or 20 or more to park, you'd be an idiot not to.
If it was less, I'd probably not bother, thinking the chap was a cheapskate.

just by thinking its closely related makes you that doucebag I mentioned earlier. not even close to the same thing. most have friends that they can call to go to game last minute...I'm seeing why you might not with each of your posts...not hard to see why a date would cancel.

I'm not saying I'm a better person than you but I was once in a situation where I had two pairs of tickets to the same Jays game and DID give them away to strangers - two kids who unsuccessfully haggling with a scalper. Ok, these aren't Leafs tickets but I didn't need them or the $10 a couple of 500 level seats would get me.

Also never asked for money when giving away parking tickets...I have paid people though (shit, it was probably you)

I'd be worried it would be a fake or something like that. Call me paranoid.
And the parking vulture would know? I would risk the 30 dollar fine on a bet that it is just as good as the free parking tickets I hand out to others.

Though if he were trying to SELL it... Yeah. Could be a scam.

Today I found a tag with a few hours on it in the machine at Yonge and Wood St. It has been a good day, Ty :)

That so-called jerk who didn't pony up the 50% you asked for likely had one of the following reasons to say no. I guessing it was number 3!

1. Wasn't enough time remaining
2. Didn't have correct change, was paying by CC
3. Instantly realized what a cheap SOB you were and gained immense satisfaction from declining your offer

I would let this thread go SkyRider. The hole you've dug is too deep to climb out of, regardless of what you say.

Not sure where the $3 came from that SkyRider wanted for the ticket, but have learned from this thread that there could be some entertainment to be had knowing that some people who want money for used parking tags also plan their day around a $3 parking charge. Think I will try to negotiate them down to a dollar, then walk.

So the establishment you were visiting does not validate parking? How's that for customer service?!?!?! You should drop a note in the suggestion box, tee hee.
