I don't understand Clarkson's actions, the leafs and Sabres will meet several times this season so there's plenty of time to settle a score. I read TSN's post game commentary and even Randy Carlyle was quoted as saying it was a stupid, selfish move by Clarkson now we will not have him in the lineup for the first 10 games. Interestingly Paul Bisonette of the Coyotes just got 10 games for leaving the bench to start a fight, he has said he will appeal but good luck with that. Just don't see these things happen much anymore. I remember the 70's fondly and all the bench clearing brawls the Flyers would get into, god I loved it being just a kid. Funny thing is now I'm 50 and over the years I've really lost all interest in hockey especially after Bettman took over and ruined everything.
totally agree with you about bettman and the way the game has changed, for the worse imho.

Fight night at the ACC with the Sabres, stupid move by Clarkson as he leaves the bench to join in the brawl, 10 game suspension for him and it looks good on him.
David Clarkson a undrafted player seems like he feels like he has to do this crap in order to justify his huge contract . He will never have the stats to justify the contract . Somebody has to sit down with this guy .. Don't act like a goon cause that is not what your being paid for ... Leave these acts to players like Orr .

I'm not a leaf fan, nor a sabres fan and I didn't watch the game. Having said that I guess all you leaf fans think it was ok that Devane fought Troop? Just asking
Yes, it is fine.
Why because I assume you mean this Corey Tropp ?

Tropp was suspended in the NCAA for hitting another player in the neck area while the player was down.

And as for the preseason game vs the Leafs ... I see Tropp starting the fight when he dropped his gloves first and went after Devane.

Orr went after Brian gionta....the noted 5-6 tough guy.
You mean Gionta the goalie runner ?
However to your point I do not recall when this took place(Orr intentional targeted{'went after'} Gionta ?). If that happened the way Mo says then no it would not sit well with me.

What's with Kessel being such a prick swinging his stick around? What a pussy.
I'm a Leaf fan, but I hope he's marked and someone is successful in teaching him a lesson next time.

Of course you are.
Most fans want to see their star player beaten up.

You are an idiot if you think Kessel should have fought that goon.

No, you are an idiot if you think someone would think that.
He should have backed off, not resort to low class stick swinging.
There's no place for that, it does not help the game.
I hope he learns that.

Why do the all the Toronto players keep their visors on when they fight?
Players are not allowed to remove their own helmets when engaged in an altercation.

He was backing off, thats why he had enough room to swing at the still advancing Scott.

All depends on your prospective. The leafs say Tropp started the fight with a much bigger Devane and can't complain he got beaten up, the Sabres players have stated they felt Devane deliberately smashed Tropps head into the ice at the end of the fight. No matter what each side thinks there will be suspensions handed out. And Scott will no doubt be ready for retaliation later in the season, at 6'8" and 280lbs I don't think the leafs enforcers are going to scare him to much.

Scott was the Instigator
Scott chirped first.
Scott is a monster
Scott is a fighter.

He aggressively went after Kessel. I have no problem with Kessel throwing a slash. It's instinct. It happens all the time ( slashing penalties) And you will note Kessel kept his swing down ....not the head....but the ankles. No problem whatsoever.

If Colton Orr was tracking me down, Id swing too..instinct....to create distance!

You make a valid point, but I wouldn't call Scott a monster. Anyway I played a lot of hockey when I was a kid and as I was always the smallest guy on the ice that was the way I dealt with bigger kids taking runs at me, I just started swinging with my stick that is and I certainly got my share of suspensions. Then my old man told me to smarten up as he wasn't going to spend all that money for me to play hockey and miss half the season on suspensions lol.

Ok He is not a monster......but at 6'8"... The second biggest player in the NHL at 270 lbs..... He is almost a monster :)

And both swings were directed at the skate blades, no body parts. He was intentionally trying to avoid injuring Scott. Just get him to back off.

And what were Kessel's options other than backing up and defending himself as he did ?

1) fight Scott ?
2) turtle ?
3) get down on his knees and beg ?

He had a right to defend himself. If I were about to be attacked by a 6'8" 270lb dude, I'd have done the same thing. I'd have used a knife if I had to.

As expected Clarkson has been given 10 games, he will lose about $269,000 of his salary, ouch. No word on whether Kessel will get anything.

Whos going to take the roster spot?

What do they do about Franson ?
This is going to make it harder to sign Franson as Clarkson's salary still counts against the cap. Will be interesting to see how Nonis manages this. I really hope they sign Franson, there are no other right shooting D's on the team and his no-wind up slapper is awesome, way better than Phaneuf's wild-watch out for your head-slapper.
