Somewhere but not here.
Many of baseball's rules are predicated on where the ball is when it actually touches the ground or passes a certain point. Balls that have not actually yet landed in the field of play are judged by where they first hit the ground, a wall or a player. There are some strange rules but they are quite clear. If a ball passes a bases in the air above fair territory but lands in foul territory it is a foul ball. If a ball passes the outfield wall in the air above fair territory but lands in the seats in foul territory it is a fair ball. Doesn't make sense in some ways, but it is very clear in the rules.
In hockey a goal doesn't have to land in the net, it just has to break the plane of the goal line. In baseball the ball has to land in the seats. Strangely enough, if a ball hits a player in the field of play and bounces directly over the fence in fair territory it is a homerun. Again, a strange rule but clearly stated in the rulebook.
That is the Jose Canseco rule ..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbIHRGUesZQ

I wasn’t aware of the incident regarding Conseco. I assume the rule was implemented or clarified after the incident?
No. I have never heard of the Canseco rule. Canseco had a ball bounce off his head over the fence and the rule was applied, but the rule had been around well before Canseco was.

True. The likelihood of a ball striking a baserunner and bouncing over the fence in fair territory is unlikely enough that it probably eliminated the necessity to mention that it needed to be a defensive player.
True enough, but some of those guys have hard heads .............:D

Jays up 7 - 2, and now down 9 - 7 WTF! Happ and Loup have had pretty awful games, not helped by a Lawrie error.

Fun to see all the Jays fans though.

DeRosa claimed off waivers by an unspecified team.
its that time of the year when GMs test the waiver market to see who is interested in the teams players. My guess is the waivers will be withdrawn and they
may talk trade.

Trading Derosa would be a bad move. This guy is a great team player. They have a option for him next year at 750,000. Not bad for a good bench guy like that. Considering the buyout woild be 250,000. He would be a bargain.

I still say they should have traded Jansen. Coulld have gotten good value for him and I have a feeling he is on the downside now.

I agree you don't want to give DeRosa away, he was brought in as a mentor and is probably the most reliable bat off the bench. To trade him you would have to get a decent piece in return.
Jansen I would hate to see traded. He has done a good job as both the closer and as a set up man. Santos appears too fragile to be reliable and Delabar appears best suited as a 1 inning set up or put out the fire type.
I'm still surprised Oliver wasn't sent to a contender.

Ya man, every GM has Anthopoulos on speed-dial...
AA will be dealing out of desperation until at least next summer...
So good luck moving scrubs like Derosa and 42 year olds.

You got 2 choices:

(1) Go into 2014 with this bunch at 50:1 shot... and pray.

(2) Blow it up, meaning you trade real pieces with bad chemistry = Bautista and Lawrie...
For a slew of pitching prospects and start re-stocking the farm.

If JA Happ is the Great White Hope... you are totally screwed.

Bautista, bad chemistry? WTF! I suspect you've had some bad chemistry lately. He's demonstrative at times, yet when was the last time you saw him approached, let alone chewed out by the coaches. He has been the face of the offence for the past three seasons, team mates listen to him, and has a cannon for an arm that few will challenge from the outfield.

Agreed. In my view Bautista is the face of the franchise, appears to be very well-respected by his teammates and should not be shown out of town. I wish though he wouldn't argue so much with the home plate umpire over balls and strikes.

I don't see chemistry as a problem with Bautista. Lauries seems to be on good terms with his team mates. I agree both of them need to keep themselves under control when it comes to arguing with the umpires. Having said that , there is something missing from this team, as they just don't seem to be unified. Usually rumours start as to one player or another not getting along, but I haven't read or heard of any situations.

Agree they are not playing well as a team but as far as unified I believe they have been pulling for each other all season. That would be a good explanation for not hearing of any situations.

With Josh Johnson gone after this year, should the Jays take a chance and bring back Doc Halliday? He's a free agent at end of season. He would unify this team.

Why would he unify the team? He left the team for more money elsewhere for 'him'. Check out how he's doing this year.

I don't see Halliday as a unifier either. His best days are behind him. Doesn't make financial sense either.
Jays will have to find starters somewhere, Roger and Happ aren't the answer. and the guys rehabbing are very suspect.

Here
Surprising how last winter's trades which were supposed to build the team's greatest strengths have become the greatest weaknesses.

Professional baseball is, indeed, a strange business!

Let's see what magic tricks AA is capable of pulling off in the month's ahead...

After blowing up the Farm System...
Jays are 53-61... and 7th in wild-card standings 11.5 games out...
And allowed 39 runs on their recent "successful" 3-4 road trip = 5.57 ERA...
Overall... starting pitching ERA is 5.15 = 29th out of 30 teams.

OFFICIAL BLUE JAYS POSITION = Nothing wrong, no one to blame, we have no idea what's wrong...
As constantly repeated by AA, Gibby and shills like Wilmer on down.

I CALL BULLSHIT...
It's not only pitching, but fundamental chemistry issues...
Requiring a either a massive shakeup or a 3 year Farm System rebuild.

But no matter what one proposes...
People just take AA's dick out of their mouth long enough... to suggest trading some scrubs.

OK, Blue Jay Nation = Zombie Nation

I'll grant you one thing...
For a Threadmill Team competing in the AL East...
At least it's entertaining and fun to watch.

What's a 'Threadmill'?

The Blue Jays went 5-5 on their most recent roadtrip.
