I hate to beat a dead horse, but Johnson has got to go. First inning and we are already down 4-0. The only good thing is we have 9 innings to go still and it's the Astros. I can't think for the life of me what AA is thinking when he says he wants to bring this guy back next year. I hope they can find some NL team who is desperate for pitching so they can get rid of him. I can't believe how bad this guy has been this year.
Maybe it is the Astros but they are probably going to go deep into the bullpen again. That bullpen is starting to get used up.

Its saturday afternoon and the jays are already behind 4-0 in the first inning:mad:
Johnson will make a minimum 14 mil next year no matter what. I wish I will be a baseball pitcher in my next life!

Unless J.J. makes a dramatic turn around for the rest of the season, I wait with bated breath to see who will offer him $14 million... is there a GM anywhere in baseball who would do that?

He is not only awful, but he fucks up very early and burns up the bullpen. If were a GM, thanks, but no, thanks!

For his sake, I hope he can turn it around; when all is said and done, very sad.

Bottom of the second and we got 2 runs back. Hopefully the bats will pick up where they left off last night.

I think I know how to make J.J. effective: start the first 2 innings with the bullpen and bring J.J in for the 3rd. :biggrin1:

Because baseball abilities can change dramatically from year to year in any given player, all baseball trades are a crapshoot. You just hope to win more than you lose.
We lucked out when we got Bautista and Enacarcion. The Vernon Wells for Mike Napoli trade would have been great if we kept Napoli and got rid of the Wells contract. In the end, we still got rid of the Wells contract.

More commonly, a player plays at legit star level for 2 or 3 years, then drops off and then possibly picks it up again for a couple of years.
That is why I chuckle when some people talk about "regression to the mean". What exactly is the mean for a ballpalyer who is a star for 2-3 years, then drops off and then possibly picks it again for a couple of years?

Johnson goes 1 - 7 with an era just over 6!!!!!!!

Nice attempted fight back by the Jays but Johnson gave away just too many.

No agent in pro sports is going to insist on JJ getting a "qualifying offer". That would be certain career suicide. The most JJ is going to get at this point is an invite to some team's minor league camp and a minor league contract with incentives.

Otherwise, he can go fuck off to the Japanese league.

(1) Tinker and have a threadmill team for the next 5 years...
Disagree. This team has talent that has the "potential" for a couple of more years to contend.

They can't do worse.

I fully expect A.A. to present J.J. with a qualifying offer.

That would show enormous faith on AA's part that JJ can turn things around. For all we know, JJ may be headed to RR-land.

I believe that was the plan....but after his recent performances, his arm problems earlier,I just don't see it unless some other manager wants him and thinks that is the cheapest way to get him. If the jays make him a qualifying offer and he doesn't take it , he is stupider than the guy making the offer.

Actually I don't think he was part of the long term plan. Reyes and Buerle were. He was an add on. But who really knows.
No way do you even make the offer. 13.75 million for the chance at a sandwich pick? After the season he had he would be an idiot not to take it and try for next year. The Jays could easily get a journeyman .500 starter for half that to fill the hole. Morrow is out as a starter and may end up in the pen like Cecil. I think they are counting on Drabek for next year too. And Happ.
Who is a free agent at the end of the season we can go after. We will have payroll room after JJ is gone.

You'd think that, wouldn't you.

Blue Jays salary commitments for 2014, with only 14 players signed (need 25!) is $110,475,000.
For reference, this years payroll is $119,277,800.

That's a difference of only $8,802,800.

Several will come under the major league minimim for whatever year they are in. Others will sign for the guaranteed money. Some may go. Other will come in. The core is signed up. And. I think rogers will come up with more. I have the feeling that they WANT a winner. If Rogers has that fever they may just pony up the extra. Not every team plays moneyball. The need to win takes over. There is a 2 year window after this season. They just nay go foe it.
Call me crazy but I see the possibility of a 150 million payroll for the right players.

I'm sick and tired of Josh Johnson, send him down already. And we gave up Henderson Alvarez to get this stiff.

Btw, what's the status on Drew Hutchinson?
