Gawker Claims Video Exists of Rob Ford Smoking Crack

There is a tipping point for everything. Basically the Star is saying their representatives verified that Rob Ford smokes crack. They have seen the proof - not here-say, not some unnamed source. This time they are the source, the accusation is coming right out of their mouth. Either Ford addresses this or he's done. He can't say it's the same as all the other smears. Acting like a boor is one thing, this is entirely a different kettle of fish.
They are NOT saying anything of the kind. That's the assumption that many people seem to be making, but really what they said was that over six weeks they pursued a claim that a video of Ford smoking crack existed, and two reporters managed to see a video that met such a description on two occasions. However they carefully only described what they saw,"…appearing to draw on a glass pipe", and carefully pointed out they couldn't see if anything was in the pipe, let alone say what it was, or that the 'Ford' character inhaled anything.

All the Star is saying is that Gawker's report is the same as they found: that someone's trying to sell a vid they claim to be of Ford smoking what the sellers claim is crack. And BTW, it's kinda curious with all this careful proceeding, that no one's accounted in much detail for having the still that was published, although they have instanced another occasion when Ford wore that sweatshirt. One imagines a moment by moment chronology of this op will come soon.

In todays world, the very best of people should not ever consider running for public office
(BTW I am not endorsing Mayor Ford as the very best of people)

If you are not as clean as a freshly fallen snow, someone will dig into your past to smear you
If you are as clean as freshly fallen snow, they will fabricate a story, stretch the truth, twist the facts and do what they can to put you in a bad light

A story about a mayor, senator, Pm or councillor should be about her or her views on public issues/ policies / taxation and what changes they would be in favour of.
Instead it is all about extra circular activities, personalities and hints, rumors and stories of corruption / inappropriate behaviour.

It will be the general public who suffers in the long run as many well intended good people will avoid the spotlight and ever increasing scrutiny.
Those that will run will be self assured egomaniacs who mistakenly think they are bullet proof and value their agenda more than their privacy

Its interesting that the far Left Liberals on this site always preach for human rights, equality, innocent till proven guilty.....etc, yet when a right-wing mayor gets accused of something serious with ZERO evidence all that goes out the window and they right away convict Rob Ford

If I were Ford I would have my press rep come out and challenge these so called video owners to put up or shut up. I would then launch a defamation lawsuit against Gawker, and potentially the Toronto Star. No fucking around here.
What if you lose that suit?

It doesn't seem like there is "ZERO evidence".

Whether it's "left" or "right", they are ALL piling on Ford -- he is an embarrassment. Period.

The campaign to raise $200K for the video is off to a strong start. It hasn't even been 24 hours yet and it's already reached $46K as I post this...

http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/rob-ford-crackstarter

If you are thinking of donating to the cause, remember that if they don't reach the goal you will not be charged the amount you donated.
If you are thinking of donating to the cause, remember that the money is going to Somali drug dealers.

Either Ford addresses this or he's done.
Agreed.

Many of the other situations can easily be characterized as smear campaigns by his enemies. Even in cases where it was claimed he broke the law, they were trivial matters that were more in the legal technicalities column rather than serious cases of wrongdoing.

This is completely different. The alleged actions are blatantly illegal and the information that has come out is damning. If it's a set-up, it's a damn good one. But so far this isn't passing the smell test.

I just would like to see the video before condemning the guy.

Although I have to admit it probably exists, and its not looking good for Ford

Classic, even when you're asked a simple question to one of your rants, if your don't like it, you just ignore it. Possibly because you don't have the answer or know the answer would be embarrassing?

Innocent until proven guilty is one of the cornerstones of most advanced societies, certainly your own country. It is a shame you take it so lightly. I guess you couldn't come up with a recent right wing mayor who was wrongly accused.

Yeah that must be it, rockie

I told you before you're too dumb to have a debate with. Even if I explain things to you, you still wont understand because you have trouble following conversations

DUMBASS!! I've been doing exactly that, defending our mayor by saying we should at least wait till we see the videotape before condemning Rob Ford

Here I thought crack addicts were thin.
He obviously isn't using enough.

I have a video of blackrock doing fuji while MrsCaloki warns them in the background about VD. I want $5.95 or it will never see the light of day. :D

That's funny
I guess the righties will just have to wait until a loonie leftie gets the mayors job and then publish a video of him / her going down on a Shetland pony.

Take this with a grain of salt, but there's always a small chance it might be true

Sure you were defending him. Right from the beginning post #1 you are doing a great job. Your posts are all over the place, no wonder few can follow half of what you post.

I get around.

But you're not Ford, and he has not denied anything yet. What would you do if someone claimed to have a video of you having sex with a prostitute? Would you still take those steps and launch a defamation lawsuit?

Rob Ford, first response to questions on being arrested for DUI in Florida: Ridiculous (tried to claim he was only ticketed for refusing breathalyzer)
Rob Ford, first response to allegations of being thrown out of Leaf game for being drunk and insulting: Ridiculous (at first he claimed he wasn't even at the game).
Rob Ford being told that subways can not be funded through private money and LRT was a better more affordable option for the city: Ridiculous (and then he engineered the firing of TTC GM Gary Webster, costing the city around $500,000 to get rid of him).
Rob Ford after 'finding out' that a casino would not bring in the $100 million figure that he had pulled out of his ass: Ridiculous. (And now he's against even discussing casinos in council).

So responding to allegations that there's a video of him smoking crack and replying with "Ridiculous", is not nearly enough of a rebuttal.

What would you call the article in The Star?
I'd call it an article in the Star in which they related the circumstantial facts known to date, and they only did it now because that u.s. website pulled the trigger and now the whole world knows the story. Rightly or wrongly, 99% of the world probably assumes he is guilty so it might be be prudent of Ford to supply the hair for testing IF he really is innocent.

P.s. that Star reporter is Hot!
