Why not now???
because they havent played a single game ...I dont bandwagon jump I'm either all in...or dont bother...and right now they havent proved a damn thing..ON...the field and isnt that where
the rubber hits the road?
proof is in the pudding?
Bear shit in the buckwheat?
and all those other funny analogies come into play.....

I hope they do well...I really do....but until they prove it....between the lines...then it all hyperbole....thats all I'm sayin'

Hey fonzie...lighten up...holy shit...been too long between ball games I see......go cheer them on....good luck
As far as being better than last year.....ON PAPER...no doubt they are...but as far as I remember...nobody ever won anything on paper??

Wherever I shouldn't be
It is sheer lunacy to look at this team, and look at last year's team, and think they will not be better, probably by a pile of games.
Tru dat Fonz, but......
C - Arencibia - Career .275 OBP, .708 OPS
Blanco - Career OBP .291, .658 OPS
Thole - Career OBP .331, .664 OPS
So, JP has pop, but isn't a consistent producer. Blanco is old and weak and Thole is Dickeys caddy.
1B - Encarnacion - Great 2012, but is it a one off?
2B - Izturis - Seriously? Every day?
Bonifacio - See above
Maybe a viable platoon, maybe not......
3B - Lawrie - Is he a player or a head case? Unknown.....
SS - Reyes - Bonafide Allstar, If he can stay healthy......
LF - Cabrera - Can he play without the juice??????
CF - Rasmus - Which one shows up?
RF - Bautista - Coming off wrist surgery...........
DH - Lind - Can't hit lefties......
SP - Dickey - 41 - 50 Career before 2012
SP - Morrow - 124 IP in 2012
SP - Johnson - 11 - 15, 251.2 IP last 2 years combined.
SP - Buehrle - A horse, but not that happy to be here.
SP - Romero - Brutal in 2012.
CL - Janssen - 9/16 in SVO Pre 2012, 31/41 Career. Coming off shoulder surgery.

Now I'm not saying it should be doom and gloom. I am in fact impressed with how much the Jays improved. That said, these are all valid concerns. THAT is why they play the games. BTW, you could do the same tear down exercise on all 30 teams. I'm a RedSox fan, it's even worse when you play devils advocate with their roster. Just sayin is all.............................

So, because they haven't played a single game this year means we can have no idea about what to expect from them? NO IDEA? I've never heard such a proposition.

FFS...Um...yeah....because they are all going on last years performances.....were they one hit wonders...did they have a break out year..was their over the top year a contract year...?
will they rest on their laurals of past acheivements?..all these question need to be answered...GOD!!!!!

I don't understand what that means - you're either all in or don't bother. Thaaaat kinda sounds like you bandwagon jump. ;) You'll wait to see if they're good before rooting for them!? LOL
Let me spell it out for you specifically...I root for a team all in...Good or Bad..I dont bend which ever way the wind blows for a team du jour..!!!clear enough for you??NO team has proven a damn thing before the season starts, in your eyes. Again, that is no reason to believe that the Twins will win more games than the Nats, is it?

"Hyperbole"? How?
Pre season prognosticaors enough said....all the supporters saying that this is their year..we're baaaaaaack..that hyperbole!!!!!!

Ah, the "lighten up" argument! I guess I should just say YOU should lighten up, and we can move on with the discussion. After all, YOU were the one telling people who were lining up for tickets this morning that they were basically fools.
Show me where I said I called them fools...all I said was look at the line up for tickets.....YOU are the one acting like a fool.....but diehard Bluejays fans are a fickle bunch, so this statement of yours doesnt surprise me....
So, you don't doubt that they are better "on paper" now? Good. What does that mean? Please answer.
LOL...eactly what it says!!!on paper..they appear to have solved some off season needs...can that translate into more wins...a wild card spot..a division win or hopefully a world series title....I hate to repeat my self but I guess you havent grasp the concept of ''the games actually have to be played''.....clear enough???!!(side bar..I doubt it!)
That "nobody ever won anything on paper" is a meaningless statement. I'll wait for your answer to my question(s).
Seriously...lets see lets do the reverse on this...
69 mets...!!!who was favored that year?
79 pirates!! who was favoured that year?
The year the tigers won it all
last time the dodgers won it with gibson on the team..
Who were the favourites those years??..sure as fuck wasnt them!!!!!
I'd go on but history has proven that ..just because they look good on paper...does NOT ..and I cant epress this enough.....DOES NOT translate into wins!!!!!
Also History has shown....time and time again if the chemistry isnt there....neither will the wins....
GET IT NOW??!!!!!!!

Wholly fuck..dude..did you even read what you said?
lets see..Minnesota twins..group of hard working players that showed that hard work and ..yes.chemistry can do amazing things.
Arizona Diamondbacks..ring any bells/
Florida Marlins..
No REAL superstars..just good players who jelled
and I'm pretty sure the JAYS were not the favourites in either year they won it all....it was the trade deadline moves that put them over the top...

No I wasnt the one saying they will get better by a lot more wins....you said that...so arent you the prognosticator here? like I said.
Ahhhhh and there it is...losing an arguement and start throwing the insults out...too bad, for a second there I thought you were getting it..
Appear to have solved some on field problems is a far cry for ACTUALLY getting it done on the field...WOW..dude...are you REALLY that thick?

Hyperbole (pron.: /haɪˈpɜrbəliː/ hy-PUR-bə-lee;[1] Greek: ὑπερβολή hyperbolē, "exaggeration") is the use of exaggeration as a rhetorical device or figure of speech. It may be used to evoke strong feelings or to create a strong impression, but is not meant to be taken literally.[2]

Hyperboles are exaggerations to create emphasis or effect. As a literary device, hyperbole is often used in poetry, and is frequently encountered in casual speech. An example of hyperbole is: "The bag weighed a ton."[3] Hyperbole makes the point that the bag was very heavy, though it probably doesn't actually weigh a ton.
hmmmm....Jays made a ton of changes which will make them contenders and world series favourites.....but they may not actually be a contender regardless of the changes.....pretty simple isnt it?
sigh.....
you just cant grasp it...can you??..its ok ....
Keep thinking on this, sooner or later you'll get what I'm saying LOL(who am I kidding)....carry on

"Chemistry"? Why not injuries, luck, aging, regression, coaching, ... all kinds of things MIGHT affect a player's performance. I'm sure "chemistry" has a place. It's not nearly as important as you think it is. Not by a long shot. Otherwise, people wouldn't be able to predict performances very well. But, they can, and on the whole they usually do a pretty good job, despite what you think.

The Jays surely were favourites when they won it all. Guess you weren't around.

Anyway, I'm not at all clear what you mean: you say the Jays appear to have solved some on-field problems. (Better, I guess, than OFF-FIELD problems, but I digress.) Do you think this is LIKELY to translate into more wins? Yes, or no. Simple question. What does that even mean? Good lord, you don't even know what you're saying.
No they werent..check your facts...they didnt surface on anyones radar until they made the trade for David Cone.
Pre-season favorites were the Yankees and Braves..

Gibberish is the language of the Damned I see.....so lets put it this way...

If the trades they made equates to more on field wins..then good..WILL it result in more wins...?...gee dont have my crystal ball ..so we will wait and see wont we..
you seem to think that all they have to do is show up, and the opposition will bow to their superior talent and tuck tail and run.....hmmmm....did they change the rules of the game so that if a team is inferior to their opponent that they forfeit?
I guess it would save the players from injury...kinda make for a boring game though wouldnt it?
not very fan friendly either.....but hey you seem to think its a given that the Jays will be head and shoulders above the competition so...I say suggest it to the BoD of MLB..see if it flys.
until that happens...I guess they will have to do it the old fashion way.and step between the lines and play the game....it suck I know but what do ya do...right

Isn't the media making him a distraction and not him .. He did the crime and was suspended ... Story closed ... Come to new team and media wants to bring up
old garbage .
But these are brand new allegations that are still being investigated. A poster suggested that the alleged infractions predate his suspension and are thus already "dealt with"; but the allegations themselves are new.

Are you sure about Yankees being the favorites ? from 89 to 91 the best the yankees finished was 5th place (twice they were 7th) in that same time Period the Jays won the division twice, and came in second the other year.

After reading Mervyn's post I took a look at the standings for '91, the season before the Jays won it all. The Yankees sucked, with a 71-91 record. Blue Jays were on top of the AL East with 91-71. I'd be really surprised if anyone favoured the Yankees over the Jays for the '92 season. Where did you get your information from?

Probably me. I've read that the Jays have received assurances from The League Office that Cabrera will not be subject to sanctions from these allegations which pre-dated his suspension.

Likely hard to find (little/no internet back then), but I followed baseball very closely and have no memory of the Yankees being a favourite back then. If I am correct the favoured Jays biggest divisional threat was Detroit and in the AL the other contenders were Minnesota and Oakland. The Yankees were a pretty 'meh' team who were never mistaken as contenders. You're dead wrong with that statement.

Not to mention the Jays only finished lower than 2nd in the division once since from 1987 until 1993 (in '88 they finished fourth; 2 games back), and they made significant moves prior to both the 1991 and '92 seasons. They were well known contenders who also had the highest payroll in MLB in '92 (yes, the Jays spent more than the Yankees).

Nothing wrong with fans showing their appreciation and support. Owners have delivered a team that fans have been dreaming about for a long, long time. They have every reason to be optimistic.

You'd have to be a complete idiot though not to understand that things don't always work out the way they are supposed to but it will be unbelievable bad luck if they are as affected by injuries this time round as last season.

Difficult to understand the earlier cynicism. Reads like a WUM.

This Melky Cabrera fella has lived in North-America since 2002: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melky_Cabrera

He still hasnt learned how to speak one lick of English in the last 11 years.

See here: http://www.thestar.com/sports/bluej...talk_about_his_controversial_2012_season.html

Whats up with that??!

I think its disrespectful. If I moved to Spain my first order of business would be learning the language (okay, perhaps my first order of business would be to bang some hot Spanish chick, but it would definitely be my second)

With age I have come to appreciate this time of year ...
NHL playoffs.
NCAA March Madness.
Spring followed by summer.

and of course

MLB Opening Day ... 2013

March 31 is the first MLB regular season game. I wonder why MLB abandon the traditional start in Cincy ?

The Jays getting things started on April 2, at Skydome(it will always be Skydome to me) vs Cleveland.

Ricky Romero's troubles from last season seem to be carrying over to his appearances in spring training. While the official word is that he's still the fifth starter, that could be in doubt.
