Now I'm not saying it should be doom and gloom. I am in fact impressed with how much the Jays improved. That said, these are all valid concerns. THAT is why they play the games. BTW, you could do the same tear down exercise on all 30 teams. I'm a RedSox fan, it's even worse when you play devils advocate with their roster. Just sayin is all.............................

"Chemistry"? Why not injuries, luck, aging, regression, coaching, ... all kinds of things MIGHT affect a player's performance. I'm sure "chemistry" has a place. It's not nearly as important as you think it is. Not by a long shot. Otherwise, people wouldn't be able to predict performances very well. But, they can, and on the whole they usually do a pretty good job, despite what you think.

The Jays surely were favourites when they won it all. Guess you weren't around.

Anyway, I'm not at all clear what you mean: you say the Jays appear to have solved some on-field problems. (Better, I guess, than OFF-FIELD problems, but I digress.) Do you think this is LIKELY to translate into more wins? Yes, or no. Simple question. What does that even mean? Good lord, you don't even know what you're saying.

After reading Mervyn's post I took a look at the standings for '91, the season before the Jays won it all. The Yankees sucked, with a 71-91 record. Blue Jays were on top of the AL East with 91-71. I'd be really surprised if anyone favoured the Yankees over the Jays for the '92 season. Where did you get your information from?

Probably me. I've read that the Jays have received assurances from The League Office that Cabrera will not be subject to sanctions from these allegations which pre-dated his suspension.

Likely hard to find (little/no internet back then), but I followed baseball very closely and have no memory of the Yankees being a favourite back then. If I am correct the favoured Jays biggest divisional threat was Detroit and in the AL the other contenders were Minnesota and Oakland. The Yankees were a pretty 'meh' team who were never mistaken as contenders. You're dead wrong with that statement.

Not to mention the Jays only finished lower than 2nd in the division once since from 1987 until 1993 (in '88 they finished fourth; 2 games back), and they made significant moves prior to both the 1991 and '92 seasons. They were well known contenders who also had the highest payroll in MLB in '92 (yes, the Jays spent more than the Yankees).

Nothing wrong with fans showing their appreciation and support. Owners have delivered a team that fans have been dreaming about for a long, long time. They have every reason to be optimistic.

You'd have to be a complete idiot though not to understand that things don't always work out the way they are supposed to but it will be unbelievable bad luck if they are as affected by injuries this time round as last season.
