1. Farmers

2. Career politicians.

I'm fascinated by people who admire firefighters but despise police.

And why is that? When firefighters help people on a daily basis, meanwhile police fuck over people on a daily basis. Understand now?

To me almost all the professions (I mean the ones that have associations and certifications) have largely been run for the sole purpose of enriching their members. So ..sadly...none.

He had to drive there, then realize you were wasting his time by doing something YOU could have easily done. I say its fair. No offense to you, but you probably took him away from another job that would have paid the same or more.
Noting also that he drove to your place in a truck that was probably stocked with enough parts, supplies and materials to open a hardware store. 'Course you coulda paid him to drive to your local DIY store and back for the washer he needed, but he tried to save you that rant.

At the very bottom are overpaid, lazy police.
You think Police are overpaid and not Firefighters? I would like a job that works 7 days a month and probably only get 2 real calls a year.
I have a bunch of FF buddies and many were cops before, they say nothing is better than a FF for sitting around and being paid for nothing.

1) A tie ... doctors & nurses (I worked in a hospital as a student - no way I would have the dedication most of these professionals had.

2) A three way tie .. career politician, divorce lawyer, serial murderer .... wait one isn't really all that bad -- I'll go in for a tie with career politician & divorce lawyer.

We been through this before, but you obvious had your head in the sand. It such an easy job that most firefighters die 5 years earlier than average and when they die, it's usually from very serious illnesses. If you actually believe they only work 7 days a month you're more ignorant than most. It doesn't matter how many 'real' calls they get, and it's more than two, each call could be life threatening and they wouldn't know till they get there and even then don't know for sure. As for your police buddies opinion, the dislike between the police and firefighter is legendary, so their opinion doesn't mean too much.

Just incase you think I'm blowing hot air, I have family and friends in the profession and worked along side many, even losing a friend to what you take as sitting around for nothing.

None of the least respected professions mentioned so far are nearly
as obnoxious as telemarketing. If I ever have to work as a telemarketer
to make a living the price to pay is all my self-respect.

I hope our teacher-hating friends don't hear this. They'll start calling for pay cuts, volunteering on their own time, firing the vetrans in favour of cheap rookies, or, worse yet, pay them per fire they put out. Responding to non-fire emergencies is similar to door-to-door sales, you knock/go in hopes of a sale/fire.

I was just trying to say that what ever your job is, if you didn't have to rob someone or scam them in order to make your money, then I can respect that. You can be successful and honest, though its not all that common.

 Firemen hope each call is a fire? ~7+% of ~140,000 calls in TO involved fire, hazardous materials, or gas leaks. Pet rescues don't count for many deaths on the job, but fires and hazardous materials sure do.

I agree re firefighters. Job description: we'll give you the best equipment and the best training, but when it comes right down to it, someone has to go into the burning building to rescue the injured children. That'll be you.

Very good point. These days, there are very few professionals who practice their profession, rather than run a business
