Sorry but I think you're seriously messed up. You should see a shrink because you definitely don't understand boundaries and why incest is taboo in the first place.
You talked about doing your own Mom FFS! If you don't find anything wrong or twisted in this, then it's clear you are messed up.
You see the world as it is today, 50 or 100 years ago things were not as it is today. Many rural families lived on the land, had no vehicle to travel and many never went more than 25 or 50 miles from their homes. They married their neighbors, many times these people would be related in some way. While the ones that I know of are church sanctioned unions in Canada, Portugal, Italy. I am sure it happened in many other places under different religions.

We docked at PEI last year. It looked like 1/2 the people born there were related. VERY strong resemblance.

If you had children, would you have sex with your son or daughter? Or maybe you prefer your own father? How about your brother? You obviously have no boundaries at all. Would you do animals too?

Its quite possible to have relationships that are mutually benefiting to both sides, its true. But society used to put a big warning sign on any where a social power imbalance made abuse quite easy. Parents and kids, teachers and students, boss and secretary (a longer time ago) relationships are or were shunned. Boundaries are changing, and while incest does have a genetic danger to it as well, I still find it would be better to still keep these as known as social minefields.

By the way, lovely photo.

I've been wondering about something. EXACTLY the same comments above were commonplace and widespread about the LGBT community years ago. But now, things have changed. In general much of the Western world (which we often tout as being civilized, enlightened, and progressive) has concluded that if sexual acts occur between two consenting adults, it's nobody else's business, we should be open-minded and accepting of the relationship and embrace and celebrate the diversity of humanity.

So in 2013, why is incest still illegal between consenting adults? And given the comments of revulsion in this thread, why doesn't this same enlightened attitude apply to incest in the case of consenting adults (of the same or opposite gender)?

Personally, I think it's only a matter of time before the incest laws are challenged in court and ultimately fall (using many of the same arguments that empowered the LGBT community), and a few years later major corporations will be proud sponsors of "Incest Pride Day".
I believe the incest taboo arose because of the significantly increased chances of genetic problems for the offspring and there was no way of knowing. As the field of genetics improves they may get to the point where they can accurately read the charts for two people and determine if it is safe for them to have offspring and also that two unrelated people shouldn't. At that point it could very well be that family members could safely interbreed and the taboo would be strictly moral at that point. And morals change. So who knows what the world will be like in the future.

I think the incest taboo arose long before anyone knew the first thing about genetics.

dahhhhhhhey think maybe they noticed that the gods punished the people who fuck their brothers by give them kids that had major problems?

Most societies have taboos that made sense n the context of the times without having scientific evidence mapping out why it was a bad idea.

I know you like to speculate about history instead of taking time to learn about it, but what you are saying really doesn't jibe with much of western history as we know it.

Can you provide some examples of historic societies that actually came to the conclusion that you suggest they did?

Because there are plenty of examples where incest was used by the most privileged and educated classes. There is also lots of societies were equal types of inbreeding are not dealt with the same way, which seems to undermine the genetic argument.

Of course it did. I was using modern language to describe them seeing that families that interbred ended up with children that had more health problems and/or learning problems than those that sought relationships outside the family line. Sorry if that caused confusion.

It's in the Bible. Leviticus, I believe where it states that a man shall not lie with another man and a woman shall not lie with another woman.

While that is speculation, there is no real evidence for that, or very little.

Lots of traditional societies have laws that prohibit incest in one relationship, while allowing incest in similar degree relationships or even closer ones.

There is a lot of debate about how the incest taboo developed, and at the moment, observation of negative genetic impact does not look like a strong contender.

To Tiffany and others.......there are certain protocols in society where we adhere to the rules as to make life more balanced and avoid moral and legal complications. So you'd have sex with your daughter if she was over 18? Sorry but it's not a case of being narrow minded.....it's a case of following certain societal rules which were instituted for a reason.......a moral compass to guide our life. It's just plain sick and so are you.

That would be homosexuality. But you might be on the right track. It looks like the incest taboo likely developed as either a social construct, or is a genetic imperative (which are both different from observing genetic impact and responding to it).
