So...in a Boston restaurant there were two lobster tanks; one had a lid on it and the other one didn't. I asked the owner why this was...his answer: the one with the lid has the American lobsters and the lid keeps them in the tank because they keep trying to climb out and get away. The one without the top is for the Canadian lobsters...when one tries to crawl out, the other lobsters pull him back...so no need for a lid.
Seems to me that there are a number of people in this thread being true Canadian lobsters!
However improbable the young ladies story might seem to some...it is a story of living your life by design...charting your path rather than just living/existing.

If you listen to our teachers, you would think they have the toughest and most dangerous job in the world. Consider yourself lucky that you are an SP and not a teacher.

The story may or may not be true, but not because of the ridiculous reason you posted.
I don't think this story is real but only because any SP that has moved on and is now making $250K a year probably wouldn't take the time to post it on TERB. If I were an SP I certainly wouldn't romanticize my time within the business no matter how pragmatic the reasons. That said, I am personally friends with a former SP who is now a very successful lawyer for one of the top Law firms in the country (no I am not going to divulge which one). She is also now married and has a daughter (I kidded to her about the irony). So yes you assholes (you know who you are), some fairy tales do come true.
This discussion will be pointless as long as one side argues about generalizations and the other about exceptions.
Improbable yet not impossible, the exception and not the rule. Again I must reiterate that my story is indeed genuine.
The answers to all of the questions raised by skeptics lie in my OP. To touch on them quickly:
1. As I stated in my OP I live abroad. Thus, it would be logical to assume that I earn my living in a currency which is not Canadian dollars and as such when you convert my salary to Canadian it is entirely possible that my total compensation equates to above $250,000. (And yes, I do pay the correct taxes in all jurisdictions :biggrin1: )
2. While it is indeed unlikely that any individual of my age would be in the position I am in, it is not impossible. As I mentioned, I joined when the company was a start-up and where I have been successful is in taking a business in start-up phase to long term sustainability and growth. In other words, any business owner and entrepreneur can tell you that it doesn't matter if a person has 3 years or 30 years of work experience. If an individual possesses strong leadership ability, exceptional business acumen and the ability to grow a business through initiative, passion and damn hard work, then a piece of paper (such as a resume) becomes significantly more insignificant. (Sure there is more to it then that, don't get me wrong, but hopefully you get the general premise of this statement)
Perhaps it is as Marshall McLuhan once said- the medium is the message. My story is more likely to seem far fetched given the impersonal nature of my posting habits on Terb and I can completely understand the reluctance to accept the extraordinary nature of my story.
I apologise if I have offended anyone with my post or if I came across as conceited or arrogant. What I was hoping to illustrate is that our job and our circumstances do not define who we are. Our ethics, drive, passion and spirit define who we are and we all have the ability to be successful (in whatever way we chose to define the word). And in our success we shouldn't forget that our life experiences help make us who we are so good or bad, we need to be thankful for the lessons we learn along the way.

Making money in PRC is easier than before, but the average salary is still way lower than the west. The trade work is usually cheap there. Intellectual work is about 1/3 or 1/2 pay of the people in the west, across all sectors.
There are more success story nowadays in PRC because of more opportunities. Again, there are a lot of corruption i.e. rich officials.
Doing escort in PRC makes a lot of money (for white women). An European girl in PRC can charge up to 1000 USD per hour. There are rich officials who would bang them.

I normally don't respond to jerks but this is for the benefit of the non-jerks. Hong Kong was returned to the PRC in 1997 when Britain's 99 year lease expired and is considered a Special Administrative Region with its own government (at least in theory) for at least 50 years. Many people do like to refer to Hong Kong as Hong Kong to distinguish it from the mainland PRC. I'm not 100% sure but I think Hong Kong still has its own currency (will check and confirm).
