I acknowledge the fact you guyz suggested a better goalie is needed. It's quite possible we could make the playoffs with an elite goalie. That is understood by me.
It took a while, but you see, we just had to wait him out.

im all for keeping draft picks, but this was a huge mistake. forsberg is going to be alot more valuable than rielly a few years down the road

Im a big Leafs and Burke fan but i was screaming at the TV when he picked Reilly instead of Forsberg too. We'll see as lots passed on Forsberg and went for Ds

Edit I just saw on TSN that Burke said that if he had the 1st overall pick he would have taken Reilly anyway lol .

I was hoping for Forsberg as well but the more I think about it the more I like this pick...

Good D-man are hard to come by through free agency and the Leafs have stocked up on Defensemen....

If Rielly pans out him and Jake Gardiner will be a force on the blueline (like Keith and Seabrook on Chicago)....

Toronto will probably trade a Defensemen for a Top Six Forward (I'm thinking Schenn or Franson will be shopped around)............

Time will tell....

It was kind of a crazy draft...

In 5 years there may be a lot of hockey fans bitching about the one that got away or gloating about a late round steal....

"They" are already saying that this Morgan kid is the best Leaf draft pick since Luke Schenn. Stanley Cup, here we come!

The celebrations in 2017 will be epic. Canada's 150th birthday, The Stanley Cup's 100th , and the Leafs 50th year without winning it! Bonne Fetes!!

The Leafs traded the Monster Jonas Gustavsson to the Winnipeg for a conditional 7th round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft. Roberto Luongo is going to be the starting goalie for the Leafs. It's just speculation.

I heard he said that too, such a load of crap. If we had first pick and he took Rielly over Yakupov, a potential franchise player, he would be fired on the spot. I know he's just trying to be confident in his pick, but thats just ridiulous.

D men are not nearly as hard to come by as centermen, something that we are desperate for. Grigorenko would have been a better pick than Rielly,
Good call on the Schenn trade prediction.

A Canadian for an American (drafted 2nd overall in 2007), hmm.....typical Burke! Where's Don Cherry to bash him, again ?!
Why not bash him?
Brian Burke is becoming a joke.
BTW, he has always liked Van Riemsdyk and tried to get him last year.
Great trade!!!..................for the Flyers

Somewhere
I said this last year when this whole silliness started and I'll say it again. Why are people so hung up on what nationality the players have? I don't care if Burke has an all American lineup if it means the team will actually win.

Schenn was often a healthy scratch last year and was unlikely to be getting more ice time under Carlyle as he simply makes way too many defensive mistakes. No question about grit and toughness, but often he just seems lost and lack hockey IQ. I am not hating on him. I'll take a guy who leave everything on the ice but may not be as skillful versus a skillful guy whom may not show up every game. Having said that, we already have a D-man like that in Phaneuf; but Phaneuf is the captain and definitely have a more offensive upside.

Van Riemsdyk is a top 6 forward type of player that was a need that the Leafs needed to address since forever. His numbers should improve with more ice time and opportunity in Toronto. Before people go all crazy with the injury thing, last year was the first time he has missed significant time. Can easily have a Lupul type season.

Wrong.

Luke Schenn played 79 of 82 games in the 2011-12 season.
He averaged 16:02 t.o.i.

No way
Not even close
He languished on the Flyers 4th line last year
He is well known as being soft and made of glass
Soft eh . Well he will fit right in with the top 6 forwards Burke has assembled . The facts are they are both two player who could use a change of scenery . Although I would have liked to see if the Leafs new coach could have got more out of him .
