Jays, need to hit better, a lot better, not statistically so much, but drive runs in earlier in the game, pitchers are not bad really, but need to be more consistant when the team is struggling offensively. I like this team, but they have not hit in KEY spots,
I think I saw a stat on TV during this past weekend showing the Jays leading the AL in batting average with RISP.

Well I have watched almost every game and they are not scoring runs like I believe they need to be. Something is wrong if they are leading the league in that statistic, something is seriously wrong, They are striking out too much, and they do need to make more contact...

What's wrong is that their average with RISP is good but they don't get the RISP enough.

Even with poor hitting and bad relief pitching they still have a respectable record. Starting pitching and defense have kept them competitive.

In the meantime, almost every team in the East has some issues and if the Jays can improve theirs it might even be fun to watch some meaningful games in September.

BTW: Magic Number is 131

Disappointing roadtrip considering the competition. Man, Oakland and Minnesota have two of the saddest lineups I've ever seen and the best we could do was split the 6 games? The Jays are going to regret not banking these easy wins come August and September.

And Lawrie needs to be hitting 5th. I don't get management's fascination with Thames.

Tonight against the Tampa Bay Rays, well it shows that we are a pretender, not a contender yet. We (the Jays) are not doing enough things in a dominate way to be a contender yet, we have some pieces, but we do not have all the pieces, and I think the hitting is now where near consistant enough, what is Dwayne Murphy doing with this group, we dont make contact when we need to make contact, we do not move enough runners up, I know some of it is small ball, and you do not play small ball in the American League, but we do not play big ball either... WE need a power hitting first basement with some power, we need a little more run production to win or be up in games as we are not winning the close games as much as we need to.... Vlad may be a plus but is he a big enough plus. I just don't thing we are ready this year, and oh Toronto needs a winner so bad... they could have won the city over...

Jays are absolutely no match for the Rays. They looked like a bunch of clowns out there tonite. No hitting will lose plenty of games. Shutter to think of how the next 2 weeks are going to go.

Why do I have this feeling that I am watching the wheels come off the wagon?

I have also watched almost every game and I cannot understand how this team had any success during spring training. I know spring training statistics don't mean anything, but the team must have had ample talent to do what they did. It is beginning to look like another bunch of under-achievers!

Where is that talent now? Bautista is "entitled" to his funk; he will come around. But Lind and Rasmus are big holes in the lineup. The BJ's can't afford to carry Rasmus for his defence unless others pick up the slack.

The starting pitchers are falling back from the heights no one was expecting them to achieve, so there is a huge load ahead for the relievers. So far, the back end of relief is mediocre at best, but Janssen may become a huge help in that.

So A.A. has to make a decision: continue letting the wheels come off until it is too late for this year, or make a meaningful trade, or bring up Gose and Cooper who can't possibly be worse than Rasmus and Lind. If these guys have talent, maybe they can show something in the big tent?

Ah, that feels better!!! :D:D

Agree. I get the same sinking feeling. Also,I don't think Thames is anything but a DH. He scares me in the outfield and should be learning the position in the minors. At some point you have to make a decision on Snider. He is much better defensively than Thames. There isn't a big difference in their averages and Snider is at least as good with men in scoring position. I say bring Snider up and play him for the rest of the year and let Thames learn his position in the minors.
I think AA is about to find the "love in" is over!

I wouldn't pin the tail on just Lind and Rasmus. Seems to me there is poor clutch hitting throughout the lineup including Lawrie, Bautista, etc. Only bright spot seems to be EE, and he's starting to look weak. A paltry 3 hits last night against also ran pitching ain't going to get the job done. I agree with giving Snider another shot in left.

Adam Lind is all screwed up. Should never have tried to convert him into a full time player.
They should have left Lind as a DH instead of trying to convert him to a full time player.
In case we didn't understand you the first time.

BTW, have you noticed that no Canadian team (including the Blue Jays) has won the World Series since Bud became official commissioner and no Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup since he's been acting and official commissioner.

Bottom third, Bautista knocks in a runner from third with a two out single and DH Encarnacion follows up with a homer. 3-0 Jays against David Price, Rays ace.

So far, so good.

4 errors. They basically gave the game to the Rays in the 7th.

By the end of this home stand, they'll be in 5th place...and sadly that's where they'll stay.

Yeah, I guess Lawrie is going to be suspended. Zaun suggested that it would be in the 3 - 10 game range. Too bad they can't suspend the ump who made his calls based on his ego rather than the location of the 3-1 & 3-2 pitches.

I think that it is an embarrassment to baseball officialdom that nothing can or will be done about the umpire's calls. The replay clearly shows that the 3&1 pitch was in the other batter's box and, I suspect, the producers chose not to show the 3&2 pitch because it was so obviously high and outside.

Not that it excuses what Lawrie did, but it was not a one sided event -- which may or may not mean anything in terms of what suspension he gets.

I would have thought that the primary concern for umpires and MLB is to get the call right, yet MLB refuses to use the instant replay which would show some of the egregious mistakes the umpires make... like that call that deprived Galarraga of a perfect game in 2010.

I am not going to hold my breath waiting for MLB to apologize for the ump -- but it should! Just like Jim Joyce did! It's the "decent" thing to do!

Is it time yet for the fans to demand that MLB get with the program?
