Even Greg Millen was sounding despondent over the lack of effort put forth by the Leafs last night. When your own announcers are saying you stink, you know you really do stink.
Well it's that time of the year . The time of the year that the Leafs sign a undrafted NCAA player and we get excited . This year name is Spencer Abbott

This is a good time to see what he can do. It doesn't affect the team at all when they are out of the race.
He may stand on his head and lead this team up the draft board . The Leafs saw him already and will see him in the AHL playoffs

The Leaf management team doesn't care where they end up on the draft board, putting him in net will give them a better idea of where he is on the NHL depth charts. It may even give them an opportunity to shop him if his tending catches another teams eye.

ok, my annual spring rant against you Laffs fans.
1. Stop buying TML merchandise
2. If you already own some, stop wearing it.
3. If your TML cap is stuck on your head give yourself a shake. At least take it off when you enter an eatery or your friend's house or your own home. Wearing indoors will NOT attract chicks.
4. Stop buying LafFs TV.
5. Stop watching any LAFFS game.
6. Stop spending money supporting the Habs and Sens owners by filling their arenas. (your behaviour there is borish)

If you are unwilling to cease and desist in all of your activities that line the pockets of MLSE then shut the fuck up with all of your end of season moaning and whining about the season that could've, should've, would've. Until you stop supporting the owners they will continue to suck the $$$ out of your brain dead bodies.

And for the love of God lose the Leafs flags on your cars. Saw one yesterday, I couldn't believe it. Those should never be out during the regular season. Playoffs, I'll give you a pass.

The Leaf management team doesn't care where they end up on the draft board,
Your right on that point and the throw in the fact they trade a lot of draft pics and that might explain why it will be the 7th year in a row they have not made the playoffs .

Wasn't it around Feb 6 that the Leaf's PK significantly improved? The PK before Feb 6 was terrible.
Just before we left PK came around, probably mid to late Jan. But what happened in the 2 weeks we were gone? Had CNN international to watch and that was about it so I had no idea what was happening with the sports teams back home. Saw some basketball scores but never a hockey score. Lots of soccer.

you really think seguin would have made a difference on this team?? now you know why the bruins got rid of him, he doesn,t work hard enough as a two way player. i remember wilson sat him for about a period one night trying to prove a point, julien sat him for 2 games, in the first round of the playoffs against the habs[ IN THE PLAYOFFS], and he did smarten up. then they made the deal in the offseason with the leafs, you have to have to HAVE heart, and be able to play both ends of the rink, to play in boston.

Indeed they do. The Kessel-Seguin trade off will remain the most glaring example of how costly giving away 1st rounders can be. Yes I like the points from Kessel, but had no idea how soft he would play. Its always 20-20 in the end.
In two years Kessel can walk and Leafs will get nothing ... He hates talking and media spotlight and either we pay him max money to stay or he walks .. If Garbo is worth 5.5 what will Kessel be asking for being a top 10 scorer ? Don't be he will give the Leafs a home court discount .

ike most, all I want to see in the end is a winning product. I do agree with Mayday though, pls lose the window flags..lol[/Q
The cap makes it very hard to fix past mistakes ( If not mistaken, I think Tucker and Raycroft are still even on the payroll from past 'buyouts'). I'm deflated at the outcome, but I don't feel MLSE isn't 'trying' to put a winning product on the ice. Burke is brought in, he brought in RW, Kessell, many excellent young hopeful like Gadiner. Signs Liles, and Grabs... RW didn't pan out, so enter Carlyle.

Missing the playoff sucks bad, but it wasn't like management didn't try to improve. Ottawa also has been trying very hard, and like Calgary, sit very close to missing the playoffs also.

LUOTE]

The Sens are more than likely to make the playoffs (http://www.senatorsextra.com/main/less-and-less-likely-sens-will-see-playoff-aspirations-slip-away) and that is with spending a lot less.

The Sens spend $51 of the cap with 12.6M leftover. In their re-building plan they specifically said that they would not spend to the cap.

The Laffs and the Habs spending leaves them with 1.1 and 2M...and no playoffs revenue. I accept that part of their cap spending may be on players long gone but I think that applies to pretty much every team. Some management just seems better at getting a better on-ice product for less $$$.

I was at a Habs -Laffs game a few weeks ago and I will state again that the Habs owners are in for a rude awakening next year. As with the Sens the majority of the season tickets are bought by regular folks, not companies, and those regular folks are not going to pony up in the same numbers next year to watch the same crappy last place finishers. The same thing happens in Ottawa...the little guy's disposable income is not as forgiving of bad teams.

In Toronto that is not the case...the companies still buy seasons tickets and the rabid fans know that they have to buy because there are 1 million other rabies infected fans waiting in line behind them to pick up the crumbs of a shitty team

Toronto fans will therefore perpetuate the mediocre on-ice product forever. And MLSE thanks you for your rabid frothings and your hard earned dollars which are easy monies for MLSE.

In these cases there is no correlation that says spending $ gives you better results.

you have to have to HAVE heart, and be able to play both ends of the rink,
Phil is not big enough to play both ends of the rink and skate boldly into the corners. I was shocked at how small he is. Maybe only a bit bigger than Jason Blake who was tiny. There is only one Martin St. Louis.

Seguin ? Boston has not trade Seguin. I assume you mean Kessel.

I really do think Tyler would make a difference on this team. Boston is a true contender, and as such with the depth they have make Seguin look like a gem. Sort of like John Mitchell now with the NYR.
So despite the drop off in points that might very well happen in Toronto, I'd take Seguin based on his style of play alone. I'd like to see passion and a little edge like Tyler shows rather then seeing Kessel fly into the other teams zone, tap the puck ahead, circle the net and fly back out.

I could not agree more about the issue of heart too.
I do not think you would be half as impressed with Seguin if he was a Leaf. He would either have been sent back to junior or if he stayed with the Leafs would have more pressure to preform here. He likely would not have developed as quickly and also likely would not be the player he is today in Boston, and may never have become such a terrific young player.
In Boston, on that team of veterans, he could make mistakes and learn without costing the team. He was allowed to develop at his own pace.

That said, I agree Seguin would look like he is trying harder then Kessel.

Heavy sigh

I heard something about six weeks ago. I considered it, at the time I did not take it too serious(the source proved unreliable in the past), but looking back this was one of the times, it seem, this source was correct.

There was a revolt in the Leaf dressing room. They were sick of Wilson.
The rumour was that the players thought Wilson was wrong in several instances, putting Reimer back in as soon as he came back when they were going well with Gustavsson was one example.
Other players coming back from injury out of game shape, but given minutes, too many minutes, was another point of contention.

Today, while out with a friend for lunch, he brought up that very topic. A revolt in the Leaf room had taken place in mid-February.
