Goalies are a different breed then most hockey players. They are more fragile. When a goalie is going good the coach must do everything he can to maintain that good feeling for as long as possible in that goalie. It is better for both the goalie's psyche and the team to feel that this goalie can carry the load. I felt that Gustavsson just had a good game and should have got the start against a struggling Columbus team.
Now I think both goalies are messed up, Gustavsson maybe beyond repair and Scrivens I hope can be sent back to the Marlies to mature slowly.

Leafs must, if Reimer is not close to ready, trade for a goalie or two.
If they could I would like to see the Leafs get Anaheim back up Dan Ellis.

lol reimer needs to come back and stop this bleeding
Reimer appears to be out for a while yet. That leaves the Leafs with 2 young inexperienced goalies that appear to have fragile egos.
I think you have to go with one of them as the primary and the other the backup and make it clear what the roles are and stick with that
until Reimer returns. The team has to pick it up offensively and defensively no matter who the goalie is.

I'd run with Scrivens. I think he is more sound technically than Gus. He's all over the place and doesn't seem to have improved much in the last year.

An 8:00 start in ST.Louis tonight.
A big game for the Leafs. They have a chance to bounce back against a team that is not playing well, at least that what the Blues management thought when it was decided to fire the coach and hire Hitchcock.
ST.Louis is 7-7 after 14 games.
Kessel has finally scored again. Is it a sign of things to come ? Or just a blip and nothing to get excited about.
Jeez, I hope he scores again and goes on a long hot streak.

The Leafs, it is my opinion, must go and get a goalie via a trade and Anaheim goalie Dan Ellis is at the top of my list.

How about Marty Turco? He won't cost you a player and should come inexpensively. Can't be any worse than what we have now can he?

Not my first choice, but I would not say no.
I would also look at the Islander goalie situation. Two spots, three goalies.

I'd run with Scrivens.
He won the game tonight.
And in the next game if he turns back into a toad ?
If he IS the guy then, woo-hoo, party on ! However I think he could be the guy, but needs a bit more seasoning.

If Reimer is not ready, then they need to go get a competent goalie or forget the playoffs.

Oh yeah, the game.

Well the Leafs won, as we all know now. If ST.Louis had a real sniper like Kessel I think they win in regulation. The Leafs were lucky to gain one point, never mind two.
Scrivens did play well, but the defence sucked.
Kessel scores to add to his league leading total and gets one, the only one, in the shootout.

On to the next game.

Agreed Leafs were lucky. I thought Scrivens made some great save but looked shaky on others.
I'm not convinced he is the answer.
Leafs out shoot the Blues in the first then get hammered in the second amd third.

Lets hope they play a full game next time instead of 20 minutes.

More on the game.
The Leaf powerplay scored twice on three chances, while the PK allowed only one in five. For one game at least special teams got the job done.
Schenn was marginally better, Phanuef was OK, Bozak has been going good in the faceoff circle.

Gustavsson has got to go. He is likely so messed up, would probably benefit from a change of scenery even if it is only the Marlies. Burke should trade him if he can get anything for him.

Depending on the seriousness of Komi's hand injury, this could give Franson some regular game action.

I would like to see Gustavsson play in the minors to gain both confidence and experience.
I imagine he is going to have to stay on as a back up until Reimer is ready, whenever that will be.
Is Wilson responsible for his lack of confidence?

Scrivens stole one for the Leafs last night.

Kulemin and Macarthur were invisible.
I would give Crabb a shot with Grabovski.

Dupuis, Lombardi, and Frattin are a waste of space.

Schenn is absolutely shit.
He is even worse than Komisarek, much worse, and Komisarek sucks.

The standings are tight and the Leafs could very quickly drop below several teams if they keep playing like this.

Yes, I think Wilson bares the whole load.

Burke, the GM, provides the players and Wilson, the coach, plays them as he sees fit.
Now, Burke has stated time and time again, to which I agree, that he(Burke) has not provided Wilson with good players. Which is why I was cutting Wilson some slack over the years even though Wilson is not my favorite, nor was he ever my first choice, or even second or third choice for that matter.

I go back to the Columbus game, yes the Leafs won, but if you are trying to build the confidence of your supposed number two goalie and you give an untested rookie the start AFTER A WIN, that is sending a message and that message is Wilson has ZERO confidence in Gustavsson.
I think Gustavsson has been mishandled by the Leafs almost since the minute the guy got here. Sure, get him into some NHL games and see what you got. He was not NHL ready so they should have sent him to the Marlies and left him there for two seasons. I bet they would have a solid, capable back-up now.

Tonight it is the cold, hot, now cold again Ottawa Senators.
As for the Leafs, I have no idea who I want in goal. Scrivens record to date says tonight will be a stinker. Gustavsson, if Reimer was not injured, would likely be with the Marlies.
If I recall Wilson has already named Scrivens to start for the Toronto(we of Leaf Nation do not know what they(the Leafs) are, but we do know they are NOT a true first place team) Maple Leafs.

Now I am going to go out on the proverbial limb and say 'the Leafs should win', but one never knows which team will show up.
