Why? She played it up for the undercover cam.

He shouldn't have hit her with a belt to begin with but it would not have escalated with more hits if she had turned around.
That doesn't explain his behavior.

She was doing what any human being would do in the face of unreasonable, offensive, abusive behavior: She was defiant. I would be too. So would anybody, and anybody who defies abuse should be proud of that. She's emotionally stronger than he is, and she showed it, and she should be damn proud of it.

What he did was not discipline, it was child abuse. He acted out in anger because he could not control his own emotions, and he took his anger out on his own child. As she herself has said, he has mental problems--and I would say if you think what he did was reasonable then so do you.

Having heard the daughter interviewed I remain puzzled by her motivations, perhaps that is because she is conflicted and does not truly understand them herself.

By the way two further points: The Texas Judicial Disciplinary Board (or whatever it is called) has already launched an investigation which they will refer to the Supreme Court of Texas for possible removal from office.

The statue of limitations on any assault, battery or child abuse charge has run.

I have not excused his behavior. What he did was abusive and inappropriate.

She did what she did because she wanted to catch him at his worst on recorded camera. Most people in fact, would comply if they were seriously afraid for their safety. They'd walk on eggshells at every moment, especially when an abuser is blowing a fuse.

He's done. Hope he's got a retirement job lined up. Maybe there's a shoe store that will hire him to sweep up. No one else will ever give him a job.

Must have been an asshole to appear in front of.

People with backbone don't back down, they stand their ground, and refuse to submit to tyranny, even if doing so sometimes comes at great personal cost.

Empty?

He was beating her as best he could. Maybe he didn't have a clear shot at the little girl's face.

Besides, even "uttering" a threat of assault or death is a criminal offense.
He was hitting her lower body as hard as he could with the belt. It's not that he didn't have a clear shot of her face. He avoided her face altogether, maybe because he believes hitting the face is overboard or he didn't want to leave marks that the neighbors would be able to see on her. I don't have the answer to that, but I know that if he wanted to smack her face up, he could have done so easily.

I take it you grew up in very tame environment where nobody loses their temper, but I can tell you that people say crazy things when they're pumped up and angry - things they don't actually intend.

GG@, hitting a teenager with a belt is assault with a weapon in this jurisdiction. So we have a judge - who is clearly a major league wack job - committing a felony on his own helpless daughter. And clearly emotionally out of control while he does so. I have clients who get a couple of months in jail for doing exactly what this guy did.

If the judge's conduct was legally in any way in a "grey area", you might begin to have the pathetic beginnings of an argument. But it wasn't. And you don't.

Now stop annoying Fuji.

I repeat, I hope you never, ever have a child, or even temporary care of one. You are a menace.
It's funny you say that. When I was around 15 years of age I went to a woman's house to babysit her kid one night. This kid was coo coo. Running around, throwing his cat against the walls, sneaking out of his bedroom to watch the porn I was watching on the tv after I had put him to bed. I choked it up to a lack of a strong male presence in the house since it was only him mom raising him. That kid was a menace. I was a near perfect babysitter.

Perhaps he should loose his law license, but I doubt he will.

He sure as fuck would up here. Judge Kerry Evans of Barrie was kicked off the Bench for sexually harassing his female staff.

The LSUC has a zero tolerance policy for sexual harassment and yanked his licence as well. This guy did even worse shit.

Texas has a "right to discipline your child law" and it is clear from that law that beating your child with a belt is over the line of what is permissible.

I've made no comment regarding the legality of his actions so I have made no argument about it either.

I simply said that the thread title was misleading. He did not beat the crap out of his daughter. It's like a parent accusing a schoolteacher of beating their child if the teacher gives the child a whack with a ruler. It may be abusive, it may be inappropriate, it may be illegal (present day), but it's not getting the crap beaten out of you. Calm your nerves already.

you are a nutjob.... downloading a game from the internet is no comparison to throwing cats against the walls, watching porn when you're clearly underage etc.

I don't think she was being defiant, she was begging not to be hit, which is different, defiant is telling him you have no right to hit me, or I'm going to report you, she was terrified.

You make a lot of assumptions about me.

Perhaps I grew up in an extremely violent environment and never want to see anything like that again?

Perhaps I lived a sheltered life in a nice well balanced home where the thought of a mentally unstable or immature parent physically assaulting or worse, mentally terrorizing their own child is about as real as aliens landing in or backyard.
Okay, no more assumptions. Out with it. What is your background?

Or maybe attacking my background is your lame ass way of deflecting the heinous psychopathic reasoning you find to somehow minimize his assault and shift ever so slightly the blame to a 16 year old girl.

Either way, I am unequivokable in my absolute disgust at his actions and pure sympathy for her.

You? Not so much...
I didn't "attack" your background. That would be strange, and I'm not sure how to do that. Nor did I attack you. That's your modus operandi, not mine.

Of course I sympathize with her. She's an intelligent and talented young woman who did not deserve to be hit with belt for her infraction (according to the rules of his house) of using a computer. On top of that, she already has to deal with hardships because she is physically disabled.

Why do you think that I sympathize with the judge? Have I stated that he should be left alone?

Why are you comparing those things at all? Who said they were comparable?

Well OK, there's a continuum here. She wasn't directly standing up to him, but she was clearly refusing to submit. Non serviam.
