Does Brett Cecil have a mohawk?
All his google image search pics feature him with a baseball cap on. Why do you think he might have a mohawk?

----

Justin Morneau of the Twins might miss the playoffs due to a concussion he suffered in Toronto on July 7, 2010. He was having a top 3 in voting MVP type season when he was injured.
He injured himself on a hard slide into second base, - obviously trying to disrupt the throw from John McDonald to Overbay to kill the double play; but, he ended up injuring himself in the process instead.

Video of injury:

-----
Travis Snider had a really great September, batting .304 for the month. He actually looks good in the lead off spot for this team.
Now that he's recovered from injuries and getting regular playing time he's playing with a confidence I haven't seen from him before.
He's playing like an impact player who might have a break out season next year.

Jose Bautista is having a fantastic breakout year in 2010.
What is his home run differential record at now. Greatest improvement in home runs.

Tough one to lose today.

Perhaps it is just me, but every time I watch Gregg pitch he always seems to make it an adventure.

I am not too sure if he is a free agent this off season, but if he is hopefully the Jays brass will look at finding a bona fide closer. Good closers do not lose games to weak hitters (the last guy) like today.

I laughed out loud at the end of the game when Jamie Campbell described Gregg's performance as "Miguel Batista like". It's exactly what I was thinking as I watched him get a batter 0-2 and then he nibbles and nibbles 'til he gets to 3-2. He couldn't put the guys away after he had 2 strikes on them.

Having said that, as infuriating as he can sometimes be to watch, he has had a very respectable year.

The Jays will play their final game tomorrow, Sunday at 2:10PM. Game will be televised on SportsNet One. I would dare to say that 2010 has been a moderate success. I think they are 3 players short of reaching the next level which is winning 90+ games. The 3 players are Lind and Hill need to regain their 2009 form and Travis Snider needs to put up 25-30 HRs and a .275-.290 B.A. 1st base and 3rd base could benefit from a higher B.A.

The bullpen, though they were somewhat decent, needs to be even more reliable. Resigning Downs would be a very big bonus. He's consistently reliable and he's a lefty.

The BJ's will win 84-85 games this year, 3 off their best post '93 pace. The Rays and Yanks will win 95-96. We are 11 or 12 games off the pace for competing for a playoff spot. That's not an insurmountable obstacle. Most of us predicted an offensive collapse this year and about 70 wins. The Jays will be about 15 wins over that prediction.

Disappointingly, neither Hill nor Lind has looked as if they might convincingly bounce back this season, albeit Hill has a decent HR total. 2011 has to be "do or die" for both of them.

It looks like we will probably get a decent #5 starter from AAA. Bullpen should get a little better too.

It might be do-able with another good year from Bautista.

Lots of doom and gloom on this thread at the beginning of the season with suggestions of 90 to 100 losses by some, including professional sports writers. Some eternal optimists though. :)

Most of those posters and columnists have been strangely quiet over the last few weeks though regarding those predictions.

That starting pitching line-up was never going to be that bad IMHO.

Lots to look forward to next season as long as the extra money for Wells doesn't kill off their chances of strengthening the bullpen.

$16,000,000 of dead money comes off the Blue Jays payroll for 2011.

B.J. Ryan's salary of $10,000,000 and the $6,000,000 subsidy of Roy Halladay's paycheque are both off the books at the end of this season.

1 of the more interesting questions for next season is Encarnacion. Dubious fielding and low average. But hit 21 HR's and 51 rbi's in 96 games with the big club.

Extrapolating, he's a 30+ HR and 80 rbi hitter. Hard to pass that kind of production up. DH? 1B?

D.H. ?

Adam Lind seems to be set there.

I would not be surprised if Lyle Overbay was resigned to a 2 year deal.

All the talk in the Toronto papers indicate that the Blue Jays will non-tender E.E., making him a Free Agent.

He's very streaky. He hits 'em in bunches and then nothing for a while. Average defensively.

I don't think his market value is very high (or how many other 3B are free agents this year) if they wanted to resign him at a reasonable price and then spend their money elsewhere e.g., 1st base, closer, signing Scott Downs).

Zep finished the season with 2 strong starts. 1 unearned run in 7 innings today.
Hopefully he can find the groove and compete for a starting job next year or a position on relief staff. Always nice to have depth.

I think he has too much power for them to let him go. Streaky or not, the #'s are there.

The Jays would have to offer EE a minimum of 4.5 million through arbitration. (cannot offer less then 15% of prior year salary)... the problem is once you do not offer a potential FA arbitration, they cannot re-sign with you until May 1.

Same reason I don`t think they will keep Overbay. There is no way they are offering him $6.7M in arbitration. So they will not tender him.

Even if Encarnacion and Overbay were interested in the Jays at a reasonable price, if they want to test the market a bit then the Jays are a SOL.

Positive season for the Jays and I am excited for next year. Guys like Batista, Buck probably played well over the head, but then you can expect some bounceback from Hill, Lind, Escobar perhaps.
