barry Manilow,s first hit Mandy was a cover of a 1971 song Brandy, by Scott English...the original is much superior to Manilow,s, which is too popish .... English is much more soulfull imo..Kyra could you do the honors and post these ..

Same goes with City of New Orleans. Can you imagine anyone else but Arlo Guthrie singing it, despite it being written and performed by Steve Goodman until his death?

How about Jimi Hendrix' version of "All Along the Watchtower?" Bob Dylan wrote the original, but you never hear it on the radio because Jimi's version is so much better.

Otherwise, anything by Richard Cheese is bound to brighten my day - he takes hard rock tunes and turns them into Lounge-y, elevator-music songs:

Welcome to the Jungle (Gn'R)

Baby Got Back (Sir Mix-a-Lot)

Beat It (MJ)

Possibly my favourite:

I don't know how to attach the clip but Nouvelle Vague has a bunch of clips on youtube.

Apparently, they only do covers but they are awesome.

I know they have at least 3 discs out with mainly 80's covers.

I love the Stones, but this version of Under My Thumb by Streetheart really rocks.

I hadn't heard that cover in much too long! I forgot how good it really is. Many thanks for the refresher, RG!

Queensryche has done some covers in their day . Odissea is a semi operaetic song Geof Tate should sang years ago when he could still hit the high notes. And the other one is Bullet The Blue Sky by U2 .They gave this song bigger balls than it already had.

Shakira had covered AC/DC's - Back In Black

Couldn't find a video for this but Grooveshark has the song...

For covers of Bullet in the Blue Sky I could only find this...

There are lots of other covers of this song, but it's hard to beat Green Day's. Love the guitar! Love, love, love it.
