Wrong on all counts.what about H1N1 and why didn't they tell free people to buy a mask then? And that's just one of the recent "coronoviris' thingys. They actually do nothing but create more garbage. This works it's a respirator that's why they use them in the plants and you are test fitted before in case there's something harmful you might accidentally breath in
Now you know.
From the CDC website on 2009 H1N1:
April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus.
Not to minimize it but compare 12,469 deaths in a 12 month period with H1N1 compared to the almost 300,000 deaths we are seeing now in a shorter time frame. This virus is much more virulent and deadly and enhanced measures must be taken.
As for your point about masks causing waste, compare how much extra waste is generated when you have to hospitalize and treat millions more people than they did in 2009. It's probably equal to thousands and thousands of masks in terms of volume of waste and most of it is plastics which are not biodegradable. And a lot of that waste is needlessly generated because there would be 10's of thousands less cases if people would only wear those tiny masks.
