I think you're in for a surprise.

I must say that I'll miss 'Animal Magnetism's' posts this time around. In 2010, his thread was supremely brilliant in keeping up with the process.

The world is hoping to see a Brazil vs. Spain final. Brazil will be tough to beat at home.

we know who is going to lose

the poor taxpayers who fund the games without a vote while corporations get rich

of course some of the monies trickle down to the workers who build the stadiums, after all it is their monies that build the stadiums

of course we would never do that ...... oh wait, did someone say pan-am games?

I do not understand it... how to justify 39 billion reais in infrastructure that does not prove to be sustainable...so much could have been done with it.... that is why people are mad... the influx of tourist will not make up or change the curse of the corruption and bad management. YES! We have been the World Cup winner FIVE times but we are not the home of football, we are merely a country where game has been played with the greatest style, passion and success.
In Manaus... for example, the stadium that is so costly doesn't make sense... yes its pretty... looks like the 'birds nest' of Beijing ....but why in Manaus? It is a remote island city of 2.3 million people.... Located in one of the planet's last great wildernesses, surrounded by green forest that stretches close to 600 miles on all sides. The electric storms sometimes overload the local grid and burn out computers, air conditioners and fridges. Rainy-season can turn a building site into a swimming pool and he equatorial sunlight is so intense that it can bleach coloured plastic seating..... what I see is that jungle tours, tribal dancing or swimming with pink boto dolphins will continue being the lifeline of many of the remote cities of the north... The government insists that its all about 'redistribution', making venues far way, you know, in line with its aim to reduce inequality between north and south, black, natives and white, poor and rich. To me it is a joke... an my heart goes to the tourists, while they will have an amazing party, the price of domestic flights between venues is terribly expensive... ugh..I can keep going... but to answer your question! Yes I hope Brasil wins this time around....

Had they spent more money on useful infrastructure, like a first world airport and mass transit to the city in Sao Paulo I could see it doing some good (like in South Africa) - but Brazil is Brazil.

IOC must be in a full panic.

My pick is Argentina, too much pressure on the Brazilians.

Germany is my 1a and I'm not willing to write off the Spaniards just yet.

Teams that will surprise - Japan & Iran. I'm not calling either to make the knockout stage but they will impress nonetheless.

Will watch to see those Bootiful Brazilian women but the games themselves I find very boring and then the "diving" makes me laugh! Just not my game

The Azzurri are my No.1 but the law of averages is on England's side. They cannot continue to grossly under perform like they have been. I liked James Sharman referring to Andrea Pirlo as the coolest man in the world. I've always said he should have won the Ballon d'Or in 2006.

Brazil doesn't have the squadrone they had in 2002, they can be beaten. Germany's tradition of hard grinders is extinguished, if they had no quarter players like Stefan Reuter or Bernd Schneider they would win it all. Argentina is a big IF, the Spaniards and the Italians that make up the bulk of the team are too busy one upping each other to work together. They are like Spain Pre-2008. Some Argies can't be bothered with the infighting, Camoranesi and more recently Paletta chose to play for Italy.
