Before any one say it Yes I know you get what you pay for.

Here is my side I only get $50 a year toward work boots from my employer (it took us 2 years of fighting to get this now that we are unionized).
So I do not want to pay any more that I have to for new work boots but I would also like to buy a new pair every year. I can get them for Like $70 to $80 form Zellers or maybe even Wal-mart and this is an option. I tend to wear out tread first before the leather does, because of the amount of walking I do.

Does anyone know where I might be able to get a pair of work black boots cheap for about $50 or so at regular price.

Thanks in advance for help.

Not that I am much of an expert...my dad used to buy redwings but iirc they would be beyond $50/year. However they seemed to be very sturdy and might be good for more than 1 year.

Aside from that observation it might be useful to know (for others) if you had any requirements for those boots in terms of specifications. Steel toe (different ratings i think) and so on.

Good luck.

Sorry, I can't help for that price. I have been Using Doc Martins for years now and can get about 3 years out of them in the toughest conditions. ie. oil, acid, lots of walking. It might be in your best interest to spend more as quality footwear is one of the most important things, especially if one is on their feet all day.

I get Carolina Laggers or Red Wing Linemans. 100 and 300 respectively. I get 2 years out of the laggers and 3 out of the lineman boots. Spend well you only have one pair of feet.

Owner's opinion of work boots is that they last 5 years and we got $50 once every 5 years if they didn't you are abusing them and with that at minimum wage you were expected to buy quality boots for only $50 only once every 5 years, right.

I have bought them all they only last 2 years max. at the end of the 2 year even the redwings were worn out.

I walk at least 10 km per 8 hour shift sometimes more. Work Boots do not last when I walk so much! The $70 cheapest pair last just as long as the redwings did 2 years.

Yes I agree that they are better but not worth it since I am buying them every year or 2 at the 1 year are start to show wear at 2 mark they are bad looking.

I am looking for Green tag safety boots.

Just thought that I would ask since other people around might know.

My current pair I got on sale a 2 for 1 deal. The two pairs only cost me out of pocket $40 if memory serves. Which they are now due to be replaced. but still as some life in them that was like 4 or 5 years ago.

I will be buying boots every year and stock pile them, If i can get them for $50 each Why should I pay out of pocket when its not necessary, if not I will buy at zellars or wal-mart.

thanks
guys

The company giving you $50 is free money that your union got. Although it is "for boots" you should just see it as $50 and put it in your pocket. I bet that $50 is only at tiny portion of your take-home pay over the course of a year (you're on terb!!!).

Put the $50 in your pocket, forget about it, and go out and buyt he pair of boots that you really want or need.

My company gives me $250 for eyeglasses once every two years, but I am not going to look like a dork and wear cheap glasses just because "the man" didn't give me enough for a good pair of designer frames--I get paid more than enough to afford to buy what I really want. (And yes, I need my glasses in order to work, so it's kind of the same. It's just free money we somehow wrangled out of the company at the end of the day.)

p.s. -- Your union reps are idiots. They might have been able to make more progress on wages or something when they were negotiating with the company. Instead they compromised on some issue in order to get you $50 for boots. Big fucking deal, wouldn't you have rather had a raise???

we do not get the $50 until I give them a receipt for work boots that I have already bought and only if they feel we need them!

I can play the game too, wear a old set and say I need a new pair print a receipt from the computer and get the money. I am replacing work boot every 1.5 to 2 years any why not but a new set every year.
If I can do so on the company fine,
if not as was stated take the $50 and run.

stop bitching about how much your boss will give you towards new boots. Most bosses would not give you a dime. Bite the bullet and buy a pair of boots that do what you need, and don't worry about the price. I would suggest getting non steel safety boots. Much lighter and easier to walk in.
