Japan beat Spain 4-0. They have to be the favourite now.
They finish 3-0 with 11 goals for and zero against.
Japan already won the tournament in 2011

After what we've seen I doubt Princekwekua will give me any more guff on who the inspirational leader of the Canadian women's team is.

You do not win cups by scoring 1 goal in 3 games…

If i was canada’s coach i would make the girls practice first touch for 6 months non stop! If you do not master your first touch you cannot build anything in soccer.

I tell my player often. If you know you will not be able to control the ball push it forward on the side. Hopefully a forward will be close by to pick it up. Which is better then giving the ball to opponent midfield…

Really poor showing from the women’s team. Much needed changes are needed.

Poor showing from every player. Janine Beckie would have made no difference lol. But I will grant you this: Canada would have gone through if Sinclair had converted the penalty against Nigeria

Sinclair's s penalty miss notwithstanding, Huitema ate too many chances, it was embarrassing. Sweet Janine would have converted at least two of those chances minimum for goals. The midfield were not dominated by any of the Selects they faced, not even the Australians. Canada's offense was pathetic.

Who will be the new captain, Janine or Ashley?

They were playing the hero game too much and not moving the ball.
Now that Canada is done i hope the same for USA. Netherlands should technically slaughter Vietnam, so let's go Portugal!

True it was a very poor showing. Yet I do not agree Beckie would have made a difference. She's in her prime years and the positive leader of that team. Janine does not need the captain-ship.

I rarely watch women's sports, but I have to admit I do watch tons of sports in general and I like to peek at the betting odds for fun. USA 1st and Canada was 11th?
Mind you I only watched everyone's first games, and if I was a bookie, Canada's odds looked about right, but I would have USA 4th or 5th best. USA doesn't threepeat
and all the betting houses and Las Vegas will clean up ( I'm sure they will balance most of their risk but they all stay exposed to a small degree).
I wouldn't be surprised if the U.S. is the largest betting nation.

As such it is similar to the NFL in which big market teams, like the ones from New York, have their lines skewed to favour them more because of all the New Yorkers and New York fans betting on them.

Therefore the country with the most money being bet on them will make them favoured more than they should be. I almost always bet against New York teams for that reason alone. You get better odds and/or lines when you do so.

yip, Soccer Canada has to take a big blame in Canada's poor showing cuz of the major distraction with the team's contract prior to the world cup.

What is the source of the funds to pay the players?
National soccer organizations divvying up proceeds largely earned from the men's side in most countries. I find it funny they want equal pay when the men bring in most revenue. In Canada it's been a little closer until recently when the men's team made their qualifying run and return to the World Cup. Stat i saw recently was this World Cup sold 1.5 million ticket sales, whereas the 2022 men's World Cup sold 3.5 million, and at much higher prices, plus the higher TV and merchandise revenue.

Regardless how much revenue the women generate, they deserve equal pay to the men. This is their new mantra which has consumed this team to their detriment. Plus, they are conveniently forgetting most of them have pay from their clubs as their main compensation

Its like WNBA players campaigning for equal pay to the men. Shameful

They do not deserve equal pay. They are in entertainment where pay is directly related to how much revenue they generate, not to mention they are not anywhere near as skilled as the men. Christine Sinclair wouldn't even make a team in the fourth division of Premier League. The WNBA wouldn't exist without male subsidies, this is little different. LeBron makes more than the entire WNBA. For good reason.

Dude every men on the men's team agree that the women should get equal pay. You get to play for the national team you get paid the same. Simple.

That's where Soccer Canada fucked up.

Few years ago Soccer Canada signed a shady deal with Canada Soccer Business. A privately owned company. It looks like they shoveled money from the soccer canada, who was getting more and more each year as both women's and men's team performed. They were getting money for Canada's teams broadcast rights and proprietary rights (shirts, sponsors...)... Canada Soccer Business said they help fund the CPL (Canadian Professionnal League) but again since it's privately owned we do not know which implication they took...

Now Soccer Canada is almost bankrupt...

So the men's and women's team are pissed. And deservedly so...

As Sinclair said today it does not excuse the poor performance they displayed at this world cup...

How to divvy up money is always a recipe for arguments. I worked briefly as a busboy when I was still a student. The policy at this restaurant was to put all the tips in a jar and then at the end of the night the money was divvied up equally among the servers with a portion to the kitchen staff and the busboys get the leftovers.

This is the same philosophy enunciated in "Das Kapital" by Karl Marx. Its called Marxism. Last I checked, we dont practice that in Canada. Our system is capitalism: you eat what you kill.
