With mask mandates lifting, are you still going to wear one?

Will you still where a mask?

  • Yes - all the time

  • Yes - sometimes in settings with big, close crowds like planes, arena,

  • Yes - but only in stores

  • No

  • Depends on my mood that day

  • Don’t know yet.

I was at a concert recently, over a thousand people, about half wearing masks. No social distancing, especially waiting in line at the bar. I guess some people have been conditioned by fear porn for so long that their mask is like a crutch.

My view on masking has nothing to do with politics or, in your case, paralyzing fear. ...
Right, no politics, just a conspiracy theory view based on extremely political social media bubbles. You guys keep spouting off about paranoid fear yet which side is it pretending that masks are part of a plan to take away freedoms? Meanwhile all of us rational people are doing most of the things we usually do, just wearing masks.

And absolutely no surprise that after a year and a half demanding that masks be a personal choice that so many anti-maskers are triggered that some people choose to wear masks even though people choosing to reduce possibility of transmission have absolutely no impact on you. It's like getting upset that other people use condoms when seeing escorts.

No. We are almost all fully vaccinated and don't need to wear masks anymore. Next week, I'm going to see the Blue Jays, with 55,000 screaming, unmasked fans. Will drink beer and eat hot dogs.

Here's the early results of a recent poll.

Will you get the fourth shot? (second booster)
  • Yes--7
  • No--0
  • Not sure what to do yet--2
So far not one person has definitely decided to not get a 2nd booster. Are they all paralyzed by fear?

Ok dude. Seriously. 9 people voted. We have no idea how long the poll was up, how many saw it, how many have an opinion yet didn’t care to vote.

This is a HUGE stretch to be forming any opinion from a poll like that. This is not how you win a debate.

I didn't claim that the pandemic is over. This virus may be with us forever, like the flu and cold viruses. We have to lean to live with it.
I agree.
And "learning to live with it" is like how we "learned to live" with flu - we invested heavily in massive infrastructure to reduce the risk down to a rate that society has been ok with and we constantly monitor it to make sure it doesn't get worse. When it does have a more serious outbreak, we go into emergency action. And it worked - flu deaths dropped massively over the time we made it a health priority and put in a vaccine program and so on. Could we get it even lower? Maybe. But we did massively lower it.

Or like "learning to live" with car accidents. We invested heavily in massive infrastructure to reduce the risk down to a rate that society has been ok with - imposing speed limits and requiring licenses and mandating safety equipment. We still employ police to constantly monitor people for obeying these mitigation behaviors and punish them when they don't. And it worked - road deaths dropped massively over the time we made it a health priority and put in drivers safety programs and so on. Could we get it even lower? Maybe. But we did massively lower it.

So it has been a bit, most people are still wearing masks when shopping. I even see it here in the hotel. I have stopped wearing it in the hotel. I just forget to be honest. I am running in and out to my car or to smoke so I don’t bother, but then I liked being all covered as it felt discreet, but I guess I am just getting lazy. When shopping in like Walmart, I still wear the mask. And to be honest, I don’t know why. Training, peer pressure, habit, safety, it is probably a combination of all it to some degree.

Regardless of whether you wear a mask or not, you will likely get
COVID at some point in the next few years. It's literally is everywhere.

Some will never know they even had it.

Most will experience minor symptoms that resolve within a few days.

A small amount of people will get long COVID and have a legitimate issue.

And a very small number of people will die from it.

You need to do a self-assessment and figure out which group you likely fall into and
act accordingly.

I will be burning the rest of my masks come March 21.
To the 40% of you who are still planning to wear masks I ask but one question - did you suffer a recent blow to the head?
Burning is very wasteful. I will gladly take them off your hands.
