Same concept.

The US ladies are now far superior to Canada. If I'm not mistaken, they've beaten Canada 6 straight games, and I see this trend continuing. Today was close but Canada was humiliated in the prelims
Or teams just go through cycles, and right now the US is an upcycle, but that doesn't mean in 5 to 10 years Canada can't be superior again.

Put it this way, I will put it a lot more faith in Canada winning the next gold medal, then I would in the Maple Leafs winning the Stanley Cup within the next 50 years

It's prelims. that's practice and Poulin, their captain and best player, didn't play that game. Prelims is for seedings and that's it.
They don't hand out the metals after the prelims. They lost to US in the prelims and still met them in the Finals.

Italy on the mens side was still playing after the prelims and they lost every prelim game.

I for sure would take that bet but how do we know that we'll still be around in 50 years? How do I know that I'll be able to collect?

Canada lost 4 in a row in a rivalry series. And including today that's 5 of the last 6.

Sure, but the last game they played for all the marbles went to overtime. Shots were in effect even.
So from this I wouldn't assess them as "now far superior". Better yes but far superior? If the US dominated this game I would concur but they didn't. Which game in the "now" is the better indicator? A prelim game where Poulin didn't play or the Finals for all the marbles where Poulin did play.

.......I think the female announcers distracted from my enjoyment. TBH, they're just not the voices that we are used to hearing in big games. This was just the wrong place for us to be exposed to something so new and different.
We can expect a virtue-signaling member to step in and challenge, but here it goes.

I agree with your sentiment about female announcers. Perhaps it's my ears and being stuck in my ways. Sometimes I find female announcers come off as too scripted. Maybe that's an experience thing that improves as they get more games under their belt.

It was a very good game.

I think I'm definitely stuck in my old ways. I hear a few female announcers for EPL games and it just sounds "off" to me.
Clearly a "me" problem as they've also forgotten more about the sport that I'll ever know.

And I'm also finding the CBC "hosts" for the Olympics off-putting too. They seem to be trying too hard to be fun and edgy.

Again... all opinions my own. I'll just go back to yelling at clouds now.

I forget which game it was in but on several occasions right after a penalty was called, they referenced a team's "power kill". LOL

I think that we're mainly splitting hairs.
