Jake Gardiner looks like he's a step or two away from being a bona fide NHL star...
It would be incorrect to classify Gardiner as a Marlie. He is already a top 4 defenceman for the Leafs. If there were no lockout, he would not be in the AHL.

kadri and colborne have been total busts this year far as im concerned.. 0 goals and just 7 assists combined with 33 shots combined in 9 games

Jake looks great though.. as well as carter ashton, and kenny ryan .. there are some other prospects that are in the echl because of the lockout

they also have D man Mike kostka signed from norfolk over the offseason who won the calder cup last june.

HE plays with Gardner and they are a great pair on the back end for the marlies
Kadri and colborne are Healthy scratches tonight .

I noticed in the paper today that the Marlies have 9 points after 9 games which puts them last in their division.

well 11 points now after the shut out of the texas stars 3-0 in texas 2nd win in a row russian prospect leo Komorov had 2 of the 3 goals they are in action tonight.

its still early and they are only 5 points out of first and they are 4th and 8th in the conferance

The Marlies swept the 3 games in Texas vs the 3 teams there & Joe Colborne, Nazem Kadri, Greg Scott, and Jerry D'Amigo all had their first goals of the year. Leo Komarov had the other. Kadri with 2 A's.

Up next is the Oiler's farm team the barons on tuesday

Oh and how about them Raptors?

It seems Ben Scrivens isn't building on last years playoff performance . Don't get me wrong , he isn't stinking up the place but numbers are down from last year. Although Jussi Rynnas is 2-0-1 with a .972 Save percentage and .084 Goals against average ..

at the moment yeah, but its a team game so everyone has to pick their games up, they are winning today 5-2 in the 3rd for a special school game in oklahoma with rynnas in net, all three of their goalies can win , the team just has to play well in front of them

edit... 5-5 going to OT SMH lol barons 4-6 on the pp http://theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1010047

It seems Burke was quite content to go with Ben Scrivens and James Reimer to start the season ....

yeah, that worries me and most fans

as for the marlies Gardner just scored in OT on the PP! 6-5 win...Justice!!. part of the marlies problems this year is the PK its 28th in the AHL and it was 1st last year. the Barons were 4-6 on the PP today, and from what i read on twitter the refs sucked

So hockey is back. Despite the sour taste of the last few months, two old questions are on the table. Will the Leafs make the playoffs, and will Brian Burke be fired if they do not make the playoffs.

I do not think that they will make the playoffs. Despite all of the money invested in the defence, this is not a shut down group a la defence back in the days of Pat Burns. The other challenge is the ongoing need for a top notch goalie and first line centre. I do not see them making the playoffs for these reasons and I think it should cost Brian his job. It will also be interesting to see if the CBC manages to keep the TV contract in that the new MLSE ownership is in the media business. If CBC loses the contract, what happens to Don Cherry? I really like the old dinosaur, but I think his time has come and gone.

Should have been fired after he fired Wilson. Leafs need a new GM who is younger and has fresh approach to the game, like the Jays GM.
