Jim Brown.
Besides being one of the best running backs ever he was one great lacrosse player as well.

He still holds a pitching record. I read somewhere he was considered the best left handed pitcher in the majors for a 5 year period. After that, I believe he hit a few home runs.
Not sure what the criteria is but I would think someone like a Bruce Jenner would have to be considered. To compete in the Decathalon you need to master 10 different track and field events covering all aspects of physical ability.

and on a whole different level, Jesse Owens. In your face Adolph. No pageantry no bravado, so much pressure and so much at stake and he just did his job. Honourable mention to Jackie Robinson.
Good point (my brother used to say when people said Michael Jordan was the greatest athlete - "yeah but put on a pair of skates on him").
I will first say Jesse Owens if we are talking about 'athlete'.
Although there's another guy who was a natural in various sports including golf (not Bo Jackson). I can't recall his name.
I dunno if I would call him the greatest ATHLETE (sorry, images of John Goodman come to mind). However, he had amazing talent and was a true natural.
