My dad's subie was about 8-9 years old when it happened. Yes, the car was old, but still, how many "my cats blew up" stories have you heard in your life (cars or otherwise)? Like I said, strange......

Cheers
The only reason cats 'blow-up" is because they get plugged with oil. The only reason that is going to happen is if the car is burning oil.

I can't believe some people here are considering the ralli-art mitsu a "street racing car". It's nothing but a commuter car that's trying (and I say TRYING) to look like an EVO.

IIRC, the Mitsubishi Lancer is not very well put together, maybe the design for low weight/rally racing effected it but its crash test results are awful for this day and age.

My choice: Accord... and the Hybrid one if you can... V6 hybrid... can't get better than that.

Lexus IS x50... it's a nice car but if you're a big guy like me, it's a kinda tight, my shoulders and arms were a little squished in.

Mitsubishi... again, not built for the bigger guy, and aside from the Eclipse, the designs suck.

Toyota Camry, very nice car, but very "family-oriented" and gives a "middle-aged-to-old-man" aura.

Too many Bimmers on the road and Benz's are just plain ugly (cept for the SLK's).

Acura's would be my next recommendation, nice designs and really reliable.

I like the new Suzuki Grand Vitara but it's a small SUV thingy, Subaru's are expensive for what you get, Volvo's are really "old-man" cars, Saab's are really nice, reliable and designs are getting more youthful, and lastly, Mazda's, um, no.

My vote based on the above list, would be to go for a Mazda Speed6 (not on the list, but easily i the same class). AWD, awesome suspension system (as in all mazda's) engine that'll produce over 270hp and the car will do sub 6s 0-60s. Price less than any of the cars you've mentioned as well, and I'd imagine your insurance will be less than BMW, Audi, Lexus etc.
No I dont work for Mazda.

I've had half a dozen co-workers over the years who went to the US specifically to buy a Mitsubishi and import it.
I was almost 1 of them, decades ago. Been a big Eclipse fan, too bad they keep messing with good design.

Mitsu big sponsor of Jacky Chan & his movies.

Without the aftermarket add-ons, basic Lancer or Outlander are dull.

Ok well I have made the decision to get a 2006 Acura TL with Navigation. I managed to find a dealer that would give me the car for 50k flat. Thanks again for all the advice guys.

A couple of weeks ago this place had a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow for sale for just 13k! Don't know what year it was but the exterior looked excellent. Oil change will probably run $500 but who cares.

I'd say some sort of Lexus like the one the crosses over with the Toyota Camry. Sorry I'm not a big car guy but what I can say is that Toyota's are great as far as being reliable is concerned.

Scratch that thought went to the Lexus homepage.... other than the convertible nothing really looked that good.

However, this brings up a question.

Would you rather use your money to buy the high end of one company or the low end of a different company. E.g. 50 K can buy a very nice car from a number of companies but when spent on say a BMW it doesn't go that far up the ladder.

honda accord, buddy has this year's model...like riding on a cushion of air.
can't beat honda for reliability.
Acura, same company, but more expensive since it's an "acura".
