I am recently in the market to buy a second car for personal use in and around the downtown core. I already have a large SUV, but that is mainly for roadtrips, and out of town driving. My budget is about 50K out the door. That is with all the warranty, tax, and everything else the fucking dealerships like to add on included in that 50k. I would like to stay away from the American cars if possible. So far I have narrowed it down to four as you can see in the poll. If you have any other suggestions please don't hesitate to post them below. Thanks TERBites. :D

Audi A3 or A4 2.0 T
**** C240 or B200 Turbo

But, if you are really obsessed about maintenance costs, go Toyota or Honda.

Note: Hey, why is M e r c blanked out?????

Wait till 2007 for the new Accord.

I have been told by a Honda Canada insider that the new accord will be a stunner. The boys at HondaCo were actuatly taking bets on what people would say when they first lay eyes on the new Accord. Most peoples eyes would bugg out and they would exclaim: "Thats an Accord"!!!!!??!!!!!
If you want to take a look at what is coming down the road, do a search on " Honda, sports 4" The word is that this will look very close to the car that will be introduced soon. There may be a sport all wheel drive version as well.

Don't get a benz. They're continually ranked the worst among the german luxury car manufactueres in customer satisfaction. I remember hearing on Top Gear at one point they were as low as 9th from the bottom. You can google the JD Power UK satisfaction survey to get an idea.

I would purchase a Legacy, I'm just a big scoobi fan and I've owned a Impreza 2.5 RS and a 2001 Legacy GT. Both were incredible cars and I dont think you'll get a better car for canadian weather. The only downside is that they're semi-expensive to maintain. Because of the Boxer engine, a lot of the major stuff like transmission and engine are hard to access and result in high labour costs. Also, they're AWD and that sucks on gas as well. But aside from that you can't get a better car for canadian weather.

For sure don't get a Benz. I have an older one that is great but a friend recently bought a new one and has had a whole host of problems. The service manager told her to try to get her money back and "go buy a Honda"

Try a 3 series BMW for a great 4 door sporty driver

Guys try and remember that I want it to stay under 50k. That is everything included. Like all the options, warranty, tax...all that shit. Not the list price or base price. Thanks. Keep the suggestions coming.

Yes, but after the dealership is done with you, you have to add at least another 3k. Warranty and what not. I have seen it all too often. I mean don't get me wrong I would love a BMW, but I have already splurged on a car and that was for my SUV. This I want something more economical, and not as nice.

The car does come with a warranty LOL The extended warranties the dealerships sell are simply a money grab. BMWs don't break! What is the "what not"

I am also looking for a smaller, fuel efficient car. I looked at the diesel Jetta, but if I have to pay 33K for a VW, I might as well get a Mercedes or BMW for around 50K. I believe the C220 lists for 38K without tax, ......

Well, I can't recall the details of the "what not" but all I know is that whenever I buy a car the price that comes after the list price is always alot more. And for some reason I just feel wrong not getting the extended warranty.

BTW, in that case I'll take the Newport. LOL :p

The Accord is easily the best overall car of the bunch. I like the front end look, but the rear and side profile of the sedan is very bland and generic. Still, if you like things that feel and run like clockwork, the Accord will grow on you.

The TSX is the most spectacular car of the group and has by far the best paint and exterior finish. If you don't mind the the added price, inusrance cost and theft risk, it's probably the best investment.

The Altima still has the finest and most timeless lines of any of these cars, but I hate Nissan's new grilles - the 2002 model was perfect, but had too many fit & quality issues. I prefer Nissan's off-the line torque to the feel of most other Japanese cars, however they have abandoned the quality control which made them so solid (and why they lost money ) in the 90's, so from now on I would only lease Nissan's, not buy them.
