Ice - T hasn't done anything for like a decade.
And if you listen to Ice Cube's work; you will see in some of his songs he refers it to being Hip Hop.

Since Ice-T and Ice Cube are sort of busy with acting and all; I don't think I would get shot at all if I said something that they disagreed with. I would probably get sued before I got shot by both "Ices".

Yes, Remy, Unfortuanatly; I do know a lot about Eminem. That's what full public exposure will do for you. Everybody gets to know you.

Not sure what you're getting at, Remy
but i also know a lot about Jesus Christ; but that doesn't mean I met him.

But when I do get his number, (Jesus' or Eminem's), I'll be sure to pm you the digits.

Your welcome

Mmhhh..... That makes an awful lot of sense Manji..... Being "sort of" busy acting means you're not doing anything....

Drop it, you're even confusing yourself now

Sorry, Frenchy.

Didn't think I was being graded for grammar.
How bout this, "Ice-T and Ice-Cube are very busy with their acting careers."

Though I have to admit, all this back and forth posting has worn me the hell out!

Actually, I wasn't talking about you Phat boy.

But listen to Ice Cube's "You can do it"; and you will see that Hip Hop is today's term for Rap. Listen to Das Efx, Nas, Wu tang; they all refer to their music as Hip Hop.

Just because you listen to the top 40 guys, doesn't make you an expert in Hip Hop.

That's it, I'm outta here.

hip-hop
(n) In Jamaican ska era, 60's, a DJ would spin and cut the wax and a MC would sing or shout or dub poetry over it. That's the roots of hiphop which were brought to New York City by Kool DJ Herc, but hip-hop or rap was created in New York City.

There you go. Hip-hop/rap are synonmous. There of course are different flavors, like gangster rap vs. pop, but its all rap/hip-hop in the end, just like there's heavy metal and death metal.

Would either Ice's be offended by the labelling of their music (and its just a label by the Industry, it actually doesn't mean anything to the artists, they just do their thing) as hip-hop instead of rap, puh-leeaaze.

I think the real tragedy of gangsta rap is the damage it does to the black community by reinforcing all the negative stereotypes that many white people and others have: that blacks are anti-social, predatory, misognyst, stupid, over-sexed, with a propensity for criminal behaviour. You don't need the KKK anymore when blacks are so willing to be architects in their own destruction.

Remember all that wonderful music blacks produced in yesteryear: Wilson Pickett, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, the Supremes, the Temptations etc.,??? It's a shame that it's been replaced by the music of the gutter...

Why are they selling Millions and millions of records ?
I've got a theory as to why rap sells as much as it does: the audience that it's marketed to for the most part doesn't have internet access, so they can't steal it from Kazaa or WinMx, like the metal and rock fans do - they have to go to the store and actually BUY it.
Therefore, the relative sales of this junk are magnified, and it takes on much more importance than it should.

Just a theory.

Well, since the typical buyer of rap CD's is a white teenage boy from the suburbs, you're theory doesn't hold much water.

I like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.

Also, Peggy Lee, Bobby Darin, Tony Bennett and Vikki Carr.

I like my singers wearing tuxedos and evening gowns. That's REAL music, baby!

Ahh... you miss my point. Those self-same white teenage boys also buy Metallica and Linkin Park, too, when they DO buy (rather than steal) CDs.
Their counterparts in the inner city, however don't, leading to a lopsidedness in sales in favor of hip-hop and rap.

Again, just a theory.
